It amuses me,but for all the jealousy directed at preps,the preps themselves still have sufficient wishes beyond their means to be just as jealous as the rest of us....Maybe money can't buy long term happiness after all,but short - term I wouldn't mind giving it a try......

I think we all have a desire to have better things than what we have now and to live a better lifestyle than what we already live. Some just let it bug them more than it should. I would like to live better and have better things myself....that gives me motivation to keep up my studies and get crackin' on moving on to a different career.

The world is made up of haves and have nots. The second you start bitching about what others have that you don't you become what they call.....A HATER!! LOL!

If you were a rich prep you'd be rolling a nice car too. Welcome to the world of HATERATION!

This can be true to an extent. Alot of times if people know you have $$ they will do stupid shit to try to sue you. i.e. slamming on the brakes so the Benz rearends the Pinto. The rich people that are miserable are the ones that are living beyond their own means and are in over their heads in debt.

Ohhhh, so true! You'd be shocked at how many "well-off" people are out there still living off of their parents at 40 years old! I sold luxury cars for a few years (expensive German ones) and can't tell you how many rotten credit reports I reviewed of people with waaaaayyy more debt than they could afford. They try desperately to "keep-up-with-the-Jones" and really cannot afford to, then hit-up their 70+ year-old parents for the money to buy their wheels for them. These are the people you see that appear to have it all, yet are so miserable and treat others so poorly it makes you wonder why.
With that in mind, use this as a financial template for life - it's really easy;
1 - Never purchase a car that is more than 1/2 your gross annual income
2 - Never let your total monthly expenses (home, cars, utilities, food, etc.) exceed 35% of your gross monthly income.
3 - Save at least 10% of your pay and invest it every payday FIRST, before anything else gets paid!!
4 - Never pull into a Mercedes dealership looking for a new car if you make less than $60K a year - you will be laughed at!!

Forget Mercedes...the Dodge dealership laughed at me. I got a Neon as a consolation prize though.

In all seriousness though...too many people (rich or not) allow the media to dictate to them what they need to wear, drive, or do to be considered "in" or "accepted" and what not. I too fell into that at one point in my life and racked up a nice hefty debt....which I am still paying for. It is unfortunate, because it only makes one more miserable when bill time comes. For me personally, it took a few life-changing events to grow up and realize life is not about "things", it's about being yourself. And when its time to meet your maker, you can't take those things with you.
