#10 MITSUBISHI 3000GT

Putting the power to the pavement is the name of the acceleration game. The Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 has 320 hp, much less than the Jag and Lightning, and the same power rating as the Mustang Cobra. So what gives the Mitsubishi the advantage over them? Traction.

This is the only all-wheel-drive car in this test. That means no wheelspin. Launching the Mitsubishi is so simple, it's like flying into outer space - even a monkey can do it. Just tach up the DOHC twin-turbocharged V6 up near its 6000 rpm power peak and drop that clutch. Granted, this isn't the best thing for the car's durability, but it sure gets this 2+2 off the line like a slingshot. All four 18-in. tires dig in, the 3000GT squats like Mike Piazza, and you are gone.

Don't expect any rubber when you throw gears, either. Tire slip in this car is harder to come by than a date with Pamela Anderson. Shifter action and clutch takeup could be a bit smoother, so quick gear changes aren't easy. But the V6's surprising amount of low-end torque really gets the heavy Mitsubishi going. And the motor pulls right up to its 7000 rpm redline.

One thing missing from the Mitsubishi's stellar performance: the right sounds. Its hair dryer exhaust note just doesn't cut it.

Test Summary:
Mitsubishi 3000GT

Base price: $44,600, Price as tested: $45,140
Engine: 3.0L/181.0 CID DOHC 24v twin turbo V6
HP: 320 @ 6000 rpm, Torque: 315 ft.-lb. @ 2500 rpm
Trans: 6M, Drivetrain: front engine/awd
Final drive: 3.87:1 w/center viscous coupling
Curb weight: 3737 lb, Weight/HP ratio: 11.7
Horsepower/liter: 106.7, Tires: 245/40ZR18
Acceleration: 0-30 mph: 1.70 sec. 0-60 mph: 5.00 sec.
1/4 mile: 13.44 sec. @ 101.79 mph

No need for smart ass remarks? You should practice what you preach, sonny. I really don't get you guys. You come in here and say shit like that and don't expect it back? And if you were talking about the guy that started all the shit, then maybe you should have made that a little bit clearer in YOUR smart ass post. I have a feeling you weren't though.

So now were all assholes, (except for one), because you came in here to start shit, and we had a little fun at your exspense. Grow up, junior. You got what was coming to you.

And then you plagiarize some advertisement, and call it education. I'd say you have alot to learn yourself, little man.

Like I said I just don't get you guys that come to the MUSTANG forum, talk shit about us and our cars, and then cry foul when somebody gives it back to you. I'd fully expect to get slammed if I went to another forum, to brag about how my car is so much better than theirs. Oddly enough though, I don't do that.

You know, I wasn't really even talking about you in those couple of posts that I made with eillob, he and I just happened to be online at the same time so I thought I'd play around a little. But if your going to call us all assholes, then consider them yours.

And BTW ricers can be stereo typed too, I'd say you fit in perfectly with them.

I couldn't agree more. Listen, if your a fan of the VR4 or 3000GT go buy it be happy, and get the hell out of here. Why try to push it on others who obviously have no interest in it. Is is a bat out of hell off the line. YES 4wd and 45K it better be, you cannnot argue that. Can it be beaten hell yes. You guys rave about this thing like it's undefeatable because it's 4WD.

Now we're assholes? Remember this you came here knowing this was a mustang forum SO in my opinion you asked for this fight. And as far as your ad youngvr4. Good info, this would be great if I was interested in buying one. Im not and still don't like the car so your point is???????

Re: 5.0 Vs. 3000gt

i'm not pushing this car on you for one
i read through this whole thread shaking my head at not just some who were bashing the 3000gt but also those who were defending it. i def wasn't about to go back and get all the names that said false info.
i was by no means attacking anyone, i simply said this is one of the more ignorant threads ive read because of all the false info.
i have nothing against mustangs i like them actaully.
i was posting info for a simple fyi.
and the fact you guys rushed me for speaking on the stupidity of this thread.

i don't expect you to like the car and don't care if you do. i was simply informing the one who said vr4's did not run 13's but maybe mid to low 14's

again, i am not trying to make you like my car, i don't car if you like my car or not. i was simply informing you because of the ignorance that was spoken

This thread is has had a bad attiude from day one and should have been closed a long time ago and it keeps popping up.

I agree with YoungVR4 post cause I agree with him there was a ton of wrong information from both the Mustang guys and 3000GT supporters. I felt that was what he meant with his post.

I think cause of all the fighting that was done earlier in this thread you guys got the wrong impression of what Young was saying. So you thought he was looking for a fight and you started in on him. I know this is probably the case cause most of you that posted I know from here for a while and I know your not the type who come on AF just to say Stangs are the greatest or always starting fights.

Also as far as Young posting here.... He saw a thread dealling with 3000GT's something he is very proficient in and decided to take a look. I post in many other forums besides this one on AF especially when Mustangs are involved. I think it's good that people who really know there stuff about a certain car help to battle ignorance with the truth.

Re: 5.0 Vs. 3000gt

GTStang, I didn't have an opinion on his post
about the thread being ignorant, one way or the other. And the couple of posts I made after that were diricted at nobody. I was simply having fun, in a thread that was as you put it, should have been closed a long time ago. Free posting, if you will. What anybody else said to him, well that's their business not mine. But to come back and say everybody in here (except for you, of course), is an asshole was totally uncalled for. Even if he did take my posts as part of the whole thing I could care a less, but hell the rest of the people in this forum didn't deserve that. Now I don't doubt that he knows his stuff when it comes to 3000gt's and he has every right to post whatever he wants, when ever he wants. But If your going to start calling people assholes (and not just a couple of people mind you, but the whole forum), over a few lame posts, then you should probably expect some backlash. It doesn't bother me that he doesn't like what I said, but it sure as hell bothers me when he starts calling everbody here names for what I said.

So I would have to conclude that ignorance comes in many forms, and on many levels, And the only thing he really proved was that he was just as capable of it as anybody, in his own way.

GTStang I agree with you. I think the main problem we are starting to have here is that this particular forum (Mustang) comes under attack quite frequently. Especially from the foreign car crowd. So no offense to you Youngvr4 but its hard to tell the difference sometimes between someone who has good info that there trying to share and someone trying to be an ass. As you can tell by the way this thread got started.

Re: 5.0 Vs. 3000gt

well for one, i apologize if i came off saying everyone in here was an asshole, thats not what i meant, but the few posts after my "this thread is ignorant comment" i'm sure i'm not the only one who could look at that and think it was directed towards me. and since it was more than one person i said you guys were assholes thinking you were attacking me for my comment.
if you were not commenting on me then i apologize.

again i don't know everyone in here to call them all assholes, i actaully made that comment trying to make you realize you were acting like an asshole for no reason.
so again if i offended the rest i apologize

Like I said I know some of the guys who posted, and I know they are not assholes or bad members of AF. I know Young does not post in here at all so he is a new person to some of you. Also like I said this thread has been a flame war so when you look at a new post you expect that. So if it wasn't for the fact that I know young from other posts. I would have probably made the same mistake as you guys.

As far as being mad about calling the whole Mustang forum assholes. Well it's the proverbial your only as strong as your weakest link. That is the reality of life. That's why I'am taking the time to try to clear up this misunderstanding even though he said I was ok.

I don't want anyone to come out of this forum with bad feelings. I don't want people to worry about posting real and fair things in here. If I wanted to be on a Message board where it was all about Mustangs rule and everybody else sucks I'd be on Corral or Stangnet only. I like the fact that on AF a kid who has been mostly into imports who now may want a Stang. Will not be afraid to get flamed and knows the info he is getting is not pure Mustang owner propaganda.
