Same for Ford. I think they make crap. I've both driven, and gone for rides in, many Fords. They're cheap... To me, they feel cheap, drive cheap, and look cheap, cause they are cheap. And mind you, I'm not talking about an Eddie Bauer Expedition. Those are all right with me.. I'm talkin about the little cars. Like a focus, or a escort, or the ZX2.. .. Like I've said before, just my opinion...

:smoker:
it's impossible for a reasonably priced sports car to exist in a company without cheaper counterparts. Look at ferrari. They (used!) to be the all std transmission, all super cars, to keep their name sake. The way it worked is in the half of mil people drop for a car that doesn't cost nearly that much to manufactre (barring hand made things). But they even fell and built an automatic model of a family type car. Porsche cracked much earlier and offer automatics almost standard and of coarse the new SUV (boo!). Both companies started with only the intentions of building a TRUE sports car which included a non-tarnished namesake, but even they cant survive on just sports cars. Lamborghini appears to be the exception but then again they were recently bought out i think.

So no matter what you buy chances are it builds a lesser model as well, it's the rules of the game. When did buying and driving cars become namesake and not smashing the accelerator and tearing up the corners??

Bill Ford, the man who lost Wolfgang Reitzle, the genius who put Ian McCallum as head of styling at Aston Martin and Jaguar. (You know that sexy Vanquish, or the XK8/R, or the DB7, that's McCallum at work). Reitzle turned the Premier Auto Group into something respectable and profitable and was gunning for Porsche's pie with the all new F-type, a sexy roadster styled in the vein of Jaguar racers of yore, right down to the wrap-around windshield that flowed into the sculptured headrests, powered by the supercharged AJ-V8, which produces 340hp and linked to a Gertrag Six-Speed tranny. This little sweetheart of a car would have only weighed around 2700lbs, thanks to extensive use of aluminum and carbon fiber. The kicker? It would have cost $5000 LESS THEN THE BOXSTER S!!!!!! They had a pre-registration list (gives you chance to get on a waiting list to purchase the car if it goes into production) that would've had them back logged for 4 years. Bill Ford canceled the car because he thought it wouldn't be a profitable venture, unlike the Aviator. Lincoln's version of the Explorer.

GOD I HATE THAT MAN!!!! HATE HATE HATE HATE JUDITH SHIENDLEN HATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is so good to know that I am not the only one that can't stand that idiot. I had no idea about this, and it makes me hate him even more.

Actually, the original quote was "It is better to be thought a fool and say nothing, than to speak and remove all doubt." -Mark Twain. There is actually a lot of debate about the exact word, but Mark's a close personal friend, so I got it straight from the horses mouth

I agree with enthusiasm carnut, don't go bashing an entire make because of your limited experience with their economy cars. Ford suffered poor performance and build quality through the early 80's to mid 90s, but they pulled out of it, and even offered some spectacular cars(LTD, Thunderbirds, Mustang Cobra, SVO Mustang, and let's not forget the X4Rti).

Octagon, it's reassuring to hear another informed person ranting about with hatred about Bill Ford! Man, I really hate that guy.

Again, this opinion of mine is based on what the thread itself is about. As far as a "Escort" or a "Civic" I would take a Civic any day. Seems like everyone is trying to take this out of context. I understand that Ford has made some splendid race cars, that's true. Would I take a "02 Mustang SVT over a Civic? Of course I would. I'm not an idiot. I am just saying, I wouldn't buy and Escort over a Civic. My opinion. Ford can make a decent car if they wanted too, but as far as service records, reliability, etc.. Honda is going to beat Ford every day of the week...

I'd go for the ZX2, more displacement, probably more potential (I don't know about the design of these engines and their limits), lighter, more torque, smaller hp, but probably easier to get it above the civic than for the civic to gain as much hp as that, and I think the brand new Civics are ugly as hell, but the ZX2 isn't exactly pretty either.

I like Ford and Honda, but I'd just rather take the Ford on this one, it costs plently less which means you would have instant money for mod as well that would even up the power and gain even more torque.

As for Fords, we own a fleet of about 7 Ford work trucks, never have any problems and they're beat on and most of them fairly old. Everything from Rangers to a really old dumptruck we had. We also have a '95 Ford Windstar with the 3.8L V6 that hsnt had many problems of it's 5 years of abuse. The head gasket blew once, but was covered with a lifetime warranty and the entire engine was replaced for free.

I also like Hondas though, they are reliable, economical, and have some attractive cars.stock performance is also getting better and better, although not exactly mind blowing or anything. In reality I wouldn't buy either of these cars though, I'd rather buy and build up a 240SX or an 2nd Gen RX-7 with that money and have something better than either of them. Or a good solid musclecar.

Meh, it doesn't really matter. If you love a car, it's what you should get. If you don't love your car then there's not much reason to have it, even if it has some great aspects or is more popular.

ok, id vote the focus. Skin it out, cage it up, make it into a rally car Colin McRae style. Oh, and the Civic is ugly and VTEC is overrated (muahaha)

And people who are complaining about Ford reliability, its all in the car. You cant kill my 96 XR7 no matter how hard you try and TRUST ME i DO NOT baby that car. On the other hand i had a starter Chevrolet Cavalier, held together like ass.

Anyway this is dumb, the dude who posted the original numbers (an MN12 driver no doubt ) was right.

Lets do real mach up i was thinking of geting a mustang GT or the new Mach 1 mustang which will have have over 300hp and a 4valve 4.6 v8
you can also get the mustang GT or M1 with 390hp

so the mach up is

Mustang or New Sti impreza when it cames out (Sti = 275hp)
