I looked it up and they only make it up to a 2000 civic of course. But I don't know whats different about an exhaust system from the cat-back on your car. And no an engine swap would certainly NOT be cheaper when you are not doing it yourself. Of course, if you were doing it yourself it probably would be. |

what does a turbo cost? 3k and they dont even make a kit for his car so it will have to have some custom work so that is more money and im not sure on the price of a b18 but i still think it will be close to or cheaper then a turbo and it would be a better base then spending the money on the stock motor

Well, it's probably going to be 4500 including the exhaust for the turbo kit. The going rate for a JDM B18C1 is about 3200. Then you got to get mounts, Hasport has them for about 550. Then you got to get it installed, not to mention some other things you are going to want to do to it while it's out of the car - IE maybe a clutch, or LSD -theres another thousand easy. But can you say JDM engines are REALLY reliable as his one year old engine with maybe 15K on it? I know JDM engines are only supposed to have 30K but I think they must beat the shit out of them for 30K if it is true. I've never seen any of them last more than a year. And with this turbo kit he should be doing over 200 HP. So even forgetting the clutch and LSD, you need to do intake and exhaust (header, HFC, and Cat-back) to even come close to 200 HP. And that should cost atleast 700 dollars for decent stuff. So by my calculations we are talking 4500 for turbo kit to make atleast 200 HP, OR B18 swap thats unreliable with a couple mods done to to make 200 HP should cost atleast 5000. And it's not like the D series sucks, if he just rebuilds down the road and replaces the rods and pistons he can run like 12-14 PSI and make more power. So it is still upgradable.

Turbo Kit
Well Revhard has kits for 2001+ si's so I'm assuming they will make a kit for my civic ex fairly soon, giving me time to finish up saving money. These guys only make kits for Civics and Acuras I believe, so that makes me feel better. With the stage 2 kit, and exhaust, I will be WELL over 200hp,(I'm thinking 250+) which thrills me much more than paying almost the same, just to get an engine near 200hp. If I do have enough for the upgrades, and the turbo kit still isn't out, then ill do a few slight mods, and work on my interior/exterior mods.(Im going to hold onto the 4000-4500 bucks, I wont burn it on looks, then be broke when the kit comes out. I'd take performance over looks any day.) Here's where my dad is willing to contribute(he doesn't like the fact that I'm trying to double my civics HP, so he's not willing to contribute to the "turbo fund") Anyway, my civic looks bad ass as it is, 2dr, got a sweet ass spoiler, and I got every little extra possible when we bought it. I'd like to get a black w/ slight orange theme going on in the interior. Black orange mats, completely black sparco seats w/ 5 way harnasses(black w/ orange lettering). New pedals, found these bad ass ones that are black, and glow orange in the center at night...few dash mods, new sound system... and i plan on removing my backseats, or finding some sort of cover. That all will probably put me back a grand. The interior crap is unecessary, but there's nothing like hopping into a "pimped out" interior just before you speed off down the block. Not much will go into my exterior, because im trying to avoid looking too fast and furious. Maybe a few decals, of the brands i've got under the hood, and my interior mods, but no fucking flames or anything. I'd rather some moron in a stock mustang, think I'm just a stupid whiteboy driving a stock 4 cyl. honda civic. And I also look forward to the high pitched rice accel sound, because right now, when I rev, it basically sounds like im starting a vacuum cleaner. I know my civic wont be considered a speed demon by any means, but here in my town, a Mustang GT, is basically the fastest we've got. So I seriously doubt I'll have much to worry about. Anyones opinion is much apreciated.
![]() Oh yeah, and I had some car buff reassure me that my engine is perfectly capable of handling a 7psi boost. |

Yeah 7 PSI is fine, I was just being safe. However, you will not double the HP of your car. Even though the kit says 120+ gain, that is for modified applications. With only 7 PSI, you will only be doing at BEST 220 BHP.

Turbo Charge
Thermal Exhaust-"We have prototyped a turbo system for the 2001+ Civic 2dr & 4dr. I am hoping to have the system in production in the next month. I would suggest that you check back in a few weeks for status."
Good news for me

your turbo answer
i dont know if you got my last message because im new to this site but a company that is very creditable is revhard.com even though they dont have your car listed all you have to do is call them and they will make you very happy.. this is a little diffrent but check their vendors and after you call rev hard call the vendors because some of them sell the kits for cheaper then they do. and on stock motor running 7 psi youll get around 200hp. if you have any questions just ask i was in the same delima a week ago.

alright i just actually read the last few posts and when i comes to hoppin up the engine for best hp the truth is that the only real engine swap for the civic is the brand new rsx motor . because of the way the engin compartment was redesigned if you attempted th but a B series engine in it you would run into so many serious problems i dont even want to discuss how much money it would cost and to be another soul to tell you 7psi on your engine would be fine. i bought the lx 2003 civic in order to run a higher boost because it has a single over head cam what i suggest is buying pistons for a turbo getting turbo camshafts and getting a low profile turbo kit and rolling up next to all thos fools that are talking smack and just b$%ch slap them.plus your car has better body styling. good luck...

2001+ Civic Turbo Kit
Max-Rev Motorsports makes an awsome turbo kit for the 2001+ Civic w/ D17 motor. I know that they are currently doing a group buy on these. Also, one really cool thing is that Max-Rev offers financing on their turbo kits. Check them out at www.MaxRev.com

I ran 10psi all the time with the Greddy kit. I've got other mods now, but haven't adjusted my timing yet, so sticking with 11psi.

Re: Turbo Charge
I have a d17a2 (which is what the ex is) and the d16 kit that revhard makes would work. I would just run low boost(5.5 pounds would work). and get a block gaurd. I also found some other company that makes a kit FOR the d17 using a garret turbo. Who knows about the other pieces though? As far as turning off the v-tech. I think that is a load of crapola. Leave it. I've seen lots of people blow up, but not because of v-tech.

Re: Turbo Charge
The swapping of the b series is no good because its too expensive to make the mounts and the wriring and all that. A k series is much more swapable. In my opinion, rev-hard is a sharp-shooting company and you would be happy with it. Listen to the guy that says 7 pounds is ok, but 6 to be safe. He sounds like he knows what he's talkin about. New and old honda are very different. If you need to the scoop on new honda, I have it.
