That's a crazy price for that swap! I paid $2600 for a B16A1 swap & they had to wire my STD harness for the MPFI & I got a Type R header and a mugen chipped ECU.

you live in LA they do those swaps like acouple times a day like everyshop, around here swaps arent as common i mean around here most shops make their money off of puttin on suspension shyt and bodykits, i dunno im gonna keep goin to gw motorsports i like them, ill just do my swap myself and get my parts from there

That's true... yeah... if you do it yourself... much respect! I forget sometimes that L.A. is weird like that. SOHC VTEC swap would be pretty dope though. Try hmotorsonline that guy is pretty dope.

Unhappy

I dont see why you wouldnt just get a zc swap if you have a si?!! if you have an si all you have to do is switch the motor and your done. thats it. Iv done it. if you have a dx then its different but for an si you just gotta switch them out. it doesnt get any easier. plus you get more power stock than a sohc vtec and alot more potential for future power cuz of the DOHC. It amazes me to see how many people do these SOHC swaps when the ZC's are so cheap and have so much more potential to build on. not to mention the extra power stock. Go to Nippon-motors.com they import all kinds of used japanese motors for cheap.

ok ... the thread title wasnt DOHC vs SOHC ... nor was it "should I put a d16z6 into my car" so all you naysayers can just STFU and not even comment up in here ... im so tired of every D-series thread or ZC thread turning into some sort of war so here I am posting in here to stop this shit before it happens. If I was gonna do another swap it would probably be a z6 cause im too cheap to change around all those mounts and shit and the z6 would be decent for the type of driving I do which is mostly commuting.

just like the ZC the sohc vtec drops right in. it is not any harder or easier of a swap.

i have no idea where you get that the zc has more stock power? it is rated with 10hp (not even whp) and 2 ft pound of torque more than the y8. you stick the y8 in a hatch and a zc in a hatch and check the whp, and it will be a lot closer. the sohc vtec has the same potential as the zc. how can you say the zc is so much cheaper? i got my y8 out of a '00 EX with only 12,000 for $500. it's near impossible to find a zc that has been sitting less than 2 years (zc are famous for needing rebuilt....nippon won't even warrenty their ZC).

don't take this wrong nicks91civicsi but really you should do some reasearch. i have seen dohc zc's get smoked by a sohc d16a6 no vtec. so anything is possible.

that is great if you have a zc and you love it. i have a sohc vtec and i love it. but you will never hear me say a sohc vtec is better or less of an engine than a zc. the engines are extremely close in specs.....a better driver makes the difference in who wins. what engine is better to get....depends on the person buying it and there preferences. i say that with all honesty and being completely serious

you really should broaden your horizons and check into the sohc vtec before you so quickly diss it. you don't have to own one to appreciate one. saying a zc is better just because you have one isn't giving out fact but rather opinion. in this thread they were looking for facts on the sohc vtec not opinion on the zc.....feel me?

ummm, didn't you like buy that car with that replacement (not engine swap) engine? :silly2:

yes there is a difference....replacement engine is what they stick in when your engine has or is about to die = nothing related to performance gain. engine swap is when you pull the stock engine with the sole purpose of performance gain.

don't get all bent out of shape. just calling it as i see it......and i see it as funny when you call it a swap when you bought it like that

let me put it to you this way. we are getting ready to pull out the y8 and stick an a6 in. it isn't even my old a6 that came in the Si. after the a6 is in wouldn't it sound funny if i was saying "i have a d16a6 swap" when in reality it's just a replacement engine *until the y8 is swapped back in*

see the difference?

i guess thats why i find it silly you call yours a swap. i bet the people who had it installed didn't even know it was a sohc zc
