Stick with the running and try to slowly build up the length of time and the distance.
The first week or two you should be running every second day for 20-30 minutes to get your body used to it. Walk inbetween these days. The next 3-4 weeks start by going for runs more often and further each time. After a month you should be ready to move up to 45 minutes with out stopping. Its important to drink plenty of water while you are on a diet...at least 2-3 litres of water a day to help clean the body as well. Eat lots of fruit and chicken, stay away from beer/salt and fatty foods. If you can...get to a gym to "tone" up. Good luck

I'm surprised this topic just came up - I started walking/running last week
. Now I'm not grosly overweight or anything, but I have too much fat on me. So, I walk a few hundred feet to warm up, break into a jog, and go until my lungs hurt. Than I walk till my breathing slows enough to start jogging again . Tips for losing weight - limit fat, salt, sugars, and carbohydrates. Drink LOTS of water - that in itself is a learned thing. I now drink about 2 litres of water a day, not including my breakfast milk and OJ, and some iced tea after work. STOP drinking pop. Eat more often, but less. 4 or 5 light meals is healthier than 2 heavy ones. Most of all - Good luck . BTW - I now weigh 250 lbs. - I'll keep ya's updated!

Dropping Some Pounds
Weight-loss is hard and a real pain if you're going for quick/unrealistic results. If however, you're willing to make some long term changes, it's actually quite easy.
The keys are: 1) Go the gym 4-6 times a week and do cardio for at least 20-30 minutes. Also do some hi-rep/lo-weight lifting for tone. It doesn't matter if you're not lifting 300 lbs or running for 75 minutes - no one to impress but yourself. 2) Don't starve yourself. If you try to starve yourself, your body gets fooled into trying to conserve all your fat etc. Eat 4-5 small meals a day and eat good food. Avoid the junk (soda, chocolate bars, chips, fast food), but obviously you've got to enjoy yourself every now and then too. Aim for a 2 lb/week loss and you won't be miserable whilst eating lettuce and grapefruit and you'll be happy with the long-term results. |

And....
Don't forget: Taco Bell Drive-Thru at 2:30 am for 4 Gorditas and 4 Double Decker Taco Supremes! You'll slap that weight on in no time flat.

My new years resolution was to lose weight. I didnt have a specific goal in mind, but I just wanted to be lighter on new years 2002 then I was on 2001. I started at 260. Yeah I had a gut, but I also through around 370 pounds on the bench so I am not all blubber. By running a few miles a day and cutting back on the fried food and soda - I've gotten down to 230. I'd still like to take off another 15 or so, but the bottom line is Exercise more and eat less junk. Your body will take care of the rest.

Biking is another good way to stay fit and keep weight off.
Bike about 10-15km's at a time. Swimming is very good as well.
