Hehe, no doubt... My car has some power, but it certainly lets you know its getting kinda tired with all the squeaks, creaks, and other assorted noises it makes...

Right now my right rear brake is making a wierd metal on metal sound... but not a high pitched one... I'm sure its something that will steal yet more money outta my already empty pockets :P

If I had 6k, believe me, it would be mine :P I just gotta get outta debt first, and I'll either rebuild the motor outta my '81 280zxt, or buy another motor to swap in... A v-8 would be fun, but I really like having turbo over having tons of cubic inches (having both would be nice tho)

yea turbo is far too good to give up

Are you guys crazy??

Turbos are great and all but no matter what you do to that straight six you will not be able to get the same performance you could from a moderate 350! You should really check out www.hybridz.com. Its a site dedicated to modifying Z cars. There are some guys on their with ZXs as well. Look at it this way.

280ZX rebuild will cost you more than buying and rebuiding a 350 (parts are dirt cheap). You want an aftermarket? Try taking a look at what is available for the small block chevy engine sometime! I will have less than $2000 in my engine counting the puchase of the engine and will conservatively have 400hp and 400lb/ft of torque. You would have to spend four times that much to get that kind of power out of a 290ci turbo. Also with a turbo you a not taking advantage of what you car does best and that is launch! Z cars can translate an enormous amount of tourque to the pavement on takeoff!

Look at it this way. If you spend 1000 bucks you can get a bone stock 350 and T-5 trans. With this set up you will run in the high 13s! I will have less than 5K in my car and should run in the low 12s with the right tires! If you think you can do that with a turbo six I hope you have VERY deep pockets!

I just checked out your Z on zdriver.com... it sounds way cool... got any pics of the a pillar gauges? I want to get one of those for my z, but wanna see how it looks first...

What did you do to your engine to run 12 psi of boost? Is it stock internals, or are they all beefed up?

Exactly... thats what makes turbos so much fun... also, a turbo'ed straight six gets a lot better gas mileage than a sbc V8...

My z gets like 20 something just cruisin, and around 15 when I'm on it...

okay, im new here but i know my cars... lets get some stuff straight... the 2g eclipse turbos (95-99) have 210 hp at the fly and weigh 2850 GST and 3100 GSX.... a modded GSX will take almost everything off the line and i have seen 0-60s in 4 sec (modded).... the GST is great from a roll and pulls a 0-60 of 6.7 stock (2g) the first gens (89-94) have a stock hp rating of 185-190, weight i believe is around the same if not lighter.... they are easy to mod.... all of them run a low 15, high 14 stock.... very easy to mod and get fast.... i raced a 96ish Civic hatchback w/ the GSR engine (b18c, i believe) and every bolt on mod and barely lost.... i didnt have the boost controller yet and the AFC oh and had 3 white guys in my car compared to 2 asians in their car.... so it does have potential

Were those times from an auto or a stick? That girl's eclipse was an auto... dunno if that makes any difference...

Anyways, I got fired from that job like a week ago, so I probably wont even have a chance to race her now, unless I catch up to her on the highway :P

hey there i'm new to ans well i got a slightly modded 1991 gst this car has it's miles on it to and my roomate has a 81 280 zx and i'll tell ya what me and him always goof off and being mine is fwd and his rear he gets me off the line but not by much he can shift later in his 1st gear but when i get into 3rd i'm on him but another thing being tat high way top end running even with a turbo after 120mph+ he is right there and he can still pull so yes it is close but keep this in mine the automatic gst have a cool little button on them that is some thing like a over drive but it will stay on the boost thru all gears so my advice to you is get the whole shot and try like hell to keep it
