Eclipse GST vs Eclipse GT (both auto)

Well, My cousins friend just bought a 1998 Mitsu Eclipse GST and he thinks he's the biggest baddest MFer around, even though it's stock and automatic......... He's going around telling everyone that a stock GST runs a low 15, high 14 quarter mile and how his shit is amazing. I told him that the manual can do that but not the Auto. And he tells me that I don't know what I'm talking about and that he'll smoke me. Needless to say, he hasn't seen my car run yet (I get it back on Friday ) And he wants some of me once I get it back LOL.

But anyways, My cousin also has a female friend with an Eclipse GT (Ashley) which is also stock and automatic (tiptronic) and they have a race set up. I think this is a close one and honestly I don't know who will win. I hear that they punched it together once and she walked him. But he said "I wasn't trying!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I talked to him today to see if he knew how to launch the car. And it seems that he knows how to launch it while in boost (theoretically) and that Ashley (Eclipse GT) will just punch the gas down and go for it.

The GST's kill list (which he brags about) consists of a Mustang V6, Mazda Miata, Stock Honda Civic. Deaths consist of a B18C1CRX.

Eclipse GT Kill list consists of......... well the GST but he wasn't trying (he claims)...........

So this race goes down this weekend. Gonna be a 1/4 mile and from a dig?

Re: Eclipse GST vs Eclipse GT (both auto)

I'm confused, (on paper) the GST has more hp, more torque available sooner, it's lighter and it redlines higher than the GT - why wouldn't the GST walk the GT?

Re: Eclipse GST vs Eclipse GT (both auto)

gst. auto or manual. they have about (damn near close) the same hp(auto). v6 eclipses are that hot. Except for the 06. then again....its not that much, if at all quicker the the turbo.

So gst it is.

Re: Eclipse GST vs Eclipse GT (both auto)

I would go with the GT. I can't immagine why he would only get walked and not be trying. Also he thinks of himself as some sort of street racer so his auto GST likely has alot harder miles on it than the new GT owned by a girl. Who knows how the cars are working, they are close enough in power and weight that sharper autoshifts with the newer eclipse could inch the GST out. Besides your cousins friend seems full of BS anyway and I would like to see him beat by a girl.

I don’t see how she could win, unless he has a dead cylinder. Clearly the GST is a better car it has more torque and its at lower RPMs.

I know people are going get mad at me for saying this, But girls are usually bad drivers.

This is the way I see it going down: She will sit at the start idling. He will hold the brake and rev up the GST. The race will start she will hit the gas, he will fly off the line and since the GST has more power it’s just going to get farther and farther away.

Mitsubishi hasn’t made a good Eclipse since the second generation.

hahahaahah, funniest shit I've read all day....but seriously, I think it's a drivers race...oh wait, they are both auto, so technically it can't be a drivers race...I guess what I mean is it's a coinflip

I don't see how its clearly a better car at all. It has nominally better numbers but its older and possibly in worse shape. Not to mention they already raced and he claimed not to have been trying after he had already lost. They are both automatic so its really not an issue of better driving. I don't think that knowing how to hold a brake peddal down at the same time as the gas is enough to be considered a great driver. That kind of crap is hard on a transmission, which we already know he does. Also who's to say after reving his car up and letting off the brake he dosn't spin his tires? I give it to the girl with the newer car.

Re: Eclipse GST vs Eclipse GT (both auto)

I also disagree with the statement "mitsubishi hasn't made a good eclipse since the 2g" I've driven a 2003 GT-S, and although not the fastest thing in the world, it's V-6 pulls pretty decent from low speeds, and it's nicely appointed.

Re: Eclipse GST vs Eclipse GT (both auto)

Mitsubishi should have never gaven up the AWD and turbo options. Ah well.

GST still has my vote, those things can have some mileage on them and still run strong.
