Best Mod for a 2000 Grand Prix GT?

Just bought my car last weekend. It's completely stock with all the options. If you could do one mod for this car, what would it be? I'm looking for more horsepower. Thanks for any replies.

1. CAI
2. Take out resonator & U-bend (it cost me $40 and i
3. Pully swap (stock is 3.8) go to a 3.4 or 3.25(3.25 U might get some KR)
4. Exhaust
5. Shift Kit (Ur wheels will chirp in second!, but be careful, some have ruined trannies)

He can't do a pulley swap cause he has no supercharger. It is a GT, but everything else can be done.

get a DHP PCM. They make so much of a difference in a GT its unreal.

well yu need to start fromt he begining...

you need air intake and some exhaust work done...ubend out and high flow muffs at least


and then you can get rockers etc etc etc...

Don't go spending about $600 on exhaust for your grand prix. Just got to a local muffler shop and have the u-bend and resonator taken off for no more than $50, then buy yourself some Dynomax Ultra Flow Welded Mufflers for the back with some good looking tips. There you go....bad ass exhaust system for around $150 not 500-600. I find this one of the best mods, and you can try a cool air induction kit as well.

I had my ubend taken out 2 days ago and did not ask for resinator removal. I was under the impression that you needed it for emissions and etc. Does it help the power cause i know it helps the sound?

Yes, it helps power out. Im guessing about 6 more HP. The I don't see why the resonator is needed through emissions tech or inspection. Because Camaros/Mustangs don't have resonators. The main purpose for the resonator on this car is to keep it too the bare minimum in noise level as posible. This is a family car and I guess GM along with other manufactures felt that the Family cars need a resonator to resonate the sound. This does make it a touch louder. One think I noticed alot with having it removed on my car is that I got some ( backfire) when I let of the gas free reving it in park. This isn't a good idea, but for awile when I had all my exhaust work done i found myself with a foot problem with the gas pedal.

taking the U-bend and res off seems to good to be true at that price... forgive me if this is obvious, I just started w/ cars; but considering-

1) it's so cheap for a no-negitive-effects gain that I wonder... and

2) What made GM put it there in the first place? I work in design and know people like us don't put on pricey stuff unless we REALLY need it, espically when its adding weight. How can a "barely perceptable" increase in sound warrant them using it in the first place?

If someone could state all possible drawbacks I'd love it!

I was wondering the same thing. I have a 2000 Grand Prix GTP daytona 500 edition and bought it in Ny before I moved and once in Florida realized that my exhaust snapped completely in half after the cat. so I took it to an exhaust shop and they suggested a res. delete but didn't explain the after effects of having said install/removal done. If someone can explain what the negative impacts are from having a res. removed I would be so tickled. I hope it's just a little noise cause $40 is alot better than doing a whole cat back system

This thread is old, and has some bad information in it, but I don't have time for all of it.

Resonator removal offers zero horsepower as it is not an exhaust restriction. All it does is offers additional exhaust drone. The 3800 needs a resonator or it sounds like poo.
