2000 Grand Prix GT, advice....

Wanting to purchase a '00 GT. I have my eyes on several in my local area. all seem to have about the same mileage - 40k-45k miles. All have very clean engine compartments but do have normal wear on the interior and have minor scuffs on the paint. Is there anything to look for when checking these cars out? My parents had a 99 GT and had Tranny problems. I did a carfax on those cars and came back clean. thanks

it is a good thing to check the plug wires, and the ignition coils. when I bought my GTP I had to have them change the ignition coils and wires. there was a rust colored deposit on the connection between them. also look realy close to see if it had ever been in a wreck. you can pull the plastic back a little to see the radiator. look for dings high in the fins.

hope that helps

As far as looking for crash evidence; check out the trunk. Look under the carpet for weld marks, and near the wheel wells for either weld and sodder marks, or bad painting. Open all doors, and look at the area behind the hinges for bad paint and soddering.

will wrecks show up on Carfax reports? I ran the vins and they were clean. I guess Carfax could not be completely accurate.

In addition, a lot of insurance companies will look at a damaged car, and then put the claims in motion, but then they are never filed by the customer. Then the car never makes it to the shop... Ends up in some junkyard, and someone buys it, and maybe restores it. Won't be reported that way either.

2000 GT for $12,3xx I think that that is quite a bit high. I paid that for my 2000 GTP. I have seen GT's 30K fully loaded for around 9.5K and I drove them, they seamed perfect. try http://www.us.trader.com usually you can find the best deals there

I'm in evansville. The dealer made me an offer. Since i owe on my blazer ($10,500). He got me payments for $297/mo. Its cheaper than i am paying now plus less months. Insurance goes up $1.50/mo. Its a sweet car.

how much did they give you for the Blazer? and what is your intrest rate?

I live in Franklin, and bought mine in Indianapolis. I was finding GT's at Ray Skillman for $10,000

I just wanted to let you know that if you look around a lot you have a good chance of buying it for alot less than that. I paid $11,500 plus my '88 GMC T15 with all sorts of problems. and mine is a GTP. we are in the same market place. and remember that they can usually drop about $2000 of every $10,000 spent.

12 thousand i think is a good price. My parents bought my grand prix in 2000 for $16,000. Go for it. As far as things to check? Nothing. Very solid cars. Wouldn't hurt to check the alternator though. Just a Tip.

My Fiancee and I bought a 2000 GT about 7 months ago. It had around 45K on it for about $12K . We also got the extended warranty on it (and I'm glad we did) . I did a Carfax on it and nothing bad showed up. I asked a friend at a GM dealer to look into any warranty claims on it. She told me it was originally a rental car and that it was towed at one time, but there wasn't any reason mentioned why it was towed. About 2 months ago , the blower motor wouldn't shut off. She took it to the dealer and told them to fix anything that was covered under the warranty. We got a bill for $2K (although only had to pay the deductable of $50) for replacing a resistor for the blower motor & replacing some gaskets(intake manifold, oil & trans pans). About 2 weeks after this, the drivers side ball joint went out and cracked the axle in half, luckily she was just pulling into the apartment complex. This costed just under $1K . If I didn't have the warranty on this car , I'd be really pissed and broke. I think the car was in an accident (warranty tow) because theres a few small drips in the paint that weren't really noticable until I washed the car by hand one day.

Overall, its a pretty good car, except for those 2 times . The car really impressed me by how well it does in the snow.
