Re: Toyota86 Wide Body kit from Hobby Desgin

So let me see if I am understanding this, people are calling out HD for not licensing their 81 RB kit and saying they copied 81, while 81 has copied parts too?

Now I am not sure which RB transkit to buy

Re: Toyota86 Wide Body kit from Hobby Desgin

I have the Factory 81 Rocket Bunny 86 kit, and I've placed an order for the HD version. Will compare the two when I have both in hand.

The Factory 81 kit is not perfect, refer to Rtuned's post above. The "Rising sun" photo etched GT wing parts are sold separately at $15USD http://www.eightyone81.com/pe001-rocket-bunny-logo-pe/ I didn't feel like paying yet another $15 for a small piece of photo-etched after paying $86.99 for a transkit, when it should be included in the first place. As for the rims, the popular choice for Rocket Bunny kitted 86 in 1:1 is the Enkei RS05RR, which Factory 81 also sells separately for $15 on facebook, not their website http://www.eightyone81.com/rm007-enkei-rs05rr-rimset/. I bought a set... kind of regretting now, because HD's transkit comes with these rims.

Both kits are not perfect. I probably will end up merging the two kits to build one car just so everything is as near correct as possible.

Re: Toyota86 Wide Body kit from Hobby Desgin

Hello, sorry, i just want to post some picture of the Bensopra kit, no hard feelings, all we want in the 1st place is that we hope can give 81 a chance to improve. when thy announce they release the Bensopra kit, i was very glad. And thought of order 2 set incase it out of production. Lucky my friend stop me and reminded me that they are still new and so far, no actual product review on the net yet and all the picture we seen are all prototype or completed model. They really made a great move. so far they are the only one release the Bensopra transkit. Really sorry if I gave you guys misunderstanding.

Here are the picture. which I really not satisfied bout it. The inner part of the shell, not clean at all, although it cant be seen, but i actually want to mod this into workable door. but the resin is very thick and uneven. i cant even fit in the HD door transkit. I dont have electric tool that can clean this up fast. what i use is 100grit sandpaper to sand it till the thickness i want. and it is not easy.

The hood, very thin. really dont have much resin for me to sand it smooth unless i cover with putty again and sand.

the body detail, very shallow, i believe after few layer of primer, paint and clear coat, those detail wont be as sharp anymore.

they can clean up the inner part of their master or prototype before making the mold with it. at least the product looks more clean and tidy. another good thing is they can save more resin aswell, both the door area are not thin. "Rtuned" should realized it. those extra thickness of resin can even case a few rims or some small parts i think.

Going to be honest, after reading the last few pages, I am regretting canceling my pre order for HD version, I really want to support 81, but I cant just do it right now, I dont see it being a wise investment right now.

Just wait for now. The other guy gonna compare what the big difference of 81 and HD and see if both are scale or off-scale and how the quality and their strength. So we just gonna wait and find out about it.

I am looking at it from a cost stand point too, and what you get for the money, and that can go both ways, the HD kit could be bad just like some of the ones that have come from 81.

Unless they specifically advertised it as "can be made to have opening doors" I wouldn't hold them against that. If they cast a large, curved area like a body side thin the risk of warping increases dramatically.

I don't think even master casters like MFH or Studio 27 make side wall that thin. The only resin caster I have done business with that can pull off that kind of overall thickness is Norm from RMCM, and it is for smaller and simpler 32 ford bodies.

There is one R35 WIP in their Facebook page with opening doors that looks thin enough, maybe you can ask them how they did it or if the newer release has thinner walls.

Other than that the casting looks decent enough. The misshapen part Rtuned posted is unacceptable though, I would definitely demand an exchange if it happens to me.

The kit is listed on their web site at US$138.99 with shipping included, why did you pay that much?

$175usd for the conversion kit, and around $25usd for postage. Thailand to Singapore is not far. Singapore neighbor is Malaysia, and upward is Thailand...get the point, I hope.

That's is for me, and I try to forget the pain right now. I not only support first time brand, I got APM 599XX EVO today too, it look great except lot of cleaning to do, but at least still can work. I rest my case here...

So you want to support them and buy their products, but then complain when something isnt right. Well do you complain about aoshima or tamiya or fujimi when something isnt perfect? and if you're going to open the doors up, that takes some skill i would think you could handle a little resin build up.
