Toyota86 Wide Body kit from Hobby Desgin

Releasing some time this month(May) is Hobby Design wide body kit for the Toyota 86 kits, it say its its for the Aoshima version, not sure if that is 100% true, and if it will fit the Tamiya body, but I dont see why not.
This is similar to the Rocket Bunny version, but its a little cheaper, and I think you get more with this one , pre order price is about $67 US, normal price is $71US, I have one on pre order already

Well its a new trans kit, so that may be why did not know about it, the 81 kit is nice, and I was going to get that one, but I am glad I waited, I like the looks of this Hobby Design one better, it seems you get a lot more for a little less

Re: Toyota86 Wide Body kit from Hobby Desgin

The Hobby Design kit looks like it has plenty of stuff. The decals would be nice, and the PE looks good. I worry about HD resin though, I hear stuff about it being out of scale. Is this the transkit with the weird NA setup with an intercooler? Anyway, I am super happy with my 81 transkit, the resin is fantastic, fits perfectly and looks spot on. I have gone back to them a bunch for other stuff and they have been super impressive. I'd love to see both built up together.

Looks ok. I'll wait to see build reviews. And yea...what the hell is up with the NA cold air through intercooler setup lol!

Re: Toyota86 Wide Body kit from Hobby Desgin

Eightyone got a license from Tra Kyoto to make the Rocket Bunny transkit. Hobby Design did not bother with obtaining a license.

When Eightyone got wind of HD's unlicensed transkit, they informed them about the licensing issue, and offered to collaborate with them on it. HD promised they will change their kit enough to not directly compete with Eightyone (the Japanese flag on the wing would be removed, for one), and refused any collaboration. Then they proceed to release their unlicensed transkit.

Based on that alone, I will definitely not get the 86 transkit from HD, not to mention their dubious resin quality. On the other hand, I have bought the one from Eightyone, and I am very happy with it.

HD looks like this from Model Scientist, so there are few out there that are not paying licensing fees, or trying to get around it

I Doubt very much that they would bother getting licenses from anyone.
Their (HD) kit looks good, love that it comes with PE & those Enkei Rims.
The first batch will fit perfect but after that....

I'll stick to suporting the little guys with my Eightyone Rocket Bunny 86 kit. Eightyone have damn good quality & are doing good things, they also have a great Facebook presence which makes them more human to deal with...

Re: Toyota86 Wide Body kit from Hobby Desgin

I need to make it clear that I am in no way supporting what Hobby Designs is doing, and was not aware of this when I posted this thread, if I was, I would not of created this thread.

I need to read what 81 post more often, well if I read the language that would help lol

In light of this maybe this thread should be locked

Re: Toyota86 Wide Body kit from Hobby Desgin

Nothing wrong with this thread, afterall it brings up some discussion on the Rocket Bunny transkit and isn't that what this forum is for?

I wish EightyOne would throw in that little fret of photoetch with their transkit too, but perhaps they need to cover their licensing fee? At $15 those Bunny Rocket logos sure are expensive.

Price-wise at $102 ($87 transkit +$15 photoetch) with shipping included it is not significantly more expensive than HD. Shipping from Hong Kong to the US registered cost over $15, and HLJ would probably charge more from Japan. Judging from the pics the only thing missing from EightyOne's kit are the brake discs and radiator/intercooler faces, but you get an extra set of SSR mesh rims.

Agreed, but its a shame what HD is doing, and I have canceled my pre order, and would rather buy it from EightyOne, one of the things that I liked about the HD one was the wheel/tire options it came with, I cant stand the stretch wheel look , and dont really like the wheels that come with the EightyOne kit.

As for the P/E, thats not a big deal, I dont really care for P/E all that much
