Re: The Clinic Model Thread
It took quite a while before they showed 14R in the book, so I wouldn't be a surprised if someday this would pop up again. I can't see any reason to crush it, even using it for spares on applicable parts would be insane as it is more worth to keep it in a single piece. If not McLaren itself, maybe some museum of "contemporary automobile art" could bring it back to public.

Re: The Clinic Model Thread
They may have done something similar to what happened with the 'Heavenly Twins' where the parts with any kind of value were removed and saved, then the chassis/body was the portion that was scrapped.
Keep in mind (and you probably know this), in the case of the Clinic Model it was not fully production representative, wasn't an actual F1 chassis under the skin, and never had a real working drivetrain fitted to it. I could imagine McLaren determining they had no further use for it and sending it off. Anyway, for now it remains a rumor I guess. If it reappears again I'll be as thrilled as anyone. ![]() >8^) ER |

Re: The Clinic Model Thread
And it's not only Albert & Edward they scrapped but also XP2 after its duties were done. So it is the sad possibility for the Clinic Model too. Its value for McLaren would be quite low I guess as they have the XP5 for the showcase purposes and in that the Clinic Model would be merely a room filler as it's not a real F1. But it would be still valuable for some automotive related museums, or maybe for a private collector too.

Re: The Clinic Model Thread
Having worked on prototypes many times in my working life it is a sad fact of life that usually once a rototype has served its purpose its just taking up valuable and expensive space. If this fate has befallen the Clinc Model it's a hard one to call, on one hand it is a significant piece of Mclaren Cars history, on the other it was superceeded by the full functioning prototypes. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Re: The Clinic Model Thread
New-to-me images of the Clinic Model in Burgundy.
![]() Caption read: McLaren F1 from the 1993 Geneva Motor Show, at that time indicated with 590 hp = = = = = = As most here are already aware, the Clinic Model is a prominent part of early F1 history. Its unique styling often sparks many questions that can be answered with a thread like this. Since Le Man's thread has done such an excellent job telling it's story I will be adding a link to this in the 'Best of the Best' sticky at the top so new members won't miss out. ![]() >8^) ER Last edited by Peloton25; 04-26-2010 at 08:34 PM. |

Re: The Clinic Model Thread
I'm not certain how many realize the significance of this date in history for the F1 project, but I thought I would share a little something I have been working on to celebrate the occasion.
Today, May 28th, is the 18th anniverary of the unveiling party in Monaco for the McLaren F1 (featuring the Clinic Model) and the day the world was officially let in on the secret that was the McLaren F1. I've always liked the overhead shot of the car and recently received a high res scan which I have worked to clean up the detail on and present here on this anniversary. In the face of some fantastic high res shots of F1s at the MTC for another anniversary it probably looks a bit lack-luster, I know. Still I hope everyone here finds reason to enjoy it. ![]() ![]() If you'd like the image at double the resolution above (2000x1400) you can download it via this link. >8^) ER |

Re: The Clinic Model Thread
^^^^^ Very nice
![]() Now, where have I seen that pic before .Even just looking at this plan view, you can see lots of little changes that were made to the car, by the time it reached its final production version. |

Phil
It's a new 'mule' for the MP4-12c; Albert & Edward are long gone [but not forgotten ]It was good to see they used Ultima again in the early stages of a Mclaren road car development

Re: The Clinic Model Thread
Another odd appearance of the Clinic Model:
![]() Quote:
No mention of the McLaren or why he's pictured with it. The perspective is definitely making the F1 look like a tiny car. The guy who forwarded me the link stated this photo would have definitely been taken in the early 1990s. He thought Fred might have been an owner but I've certainly never heard the name. >8^) ER |
