The Clinic Model Thread

At last I have finally got my scanner back in action. Its been on the "jobs to do" list for far to long. Got to get to grips, with using it again. Let me know if the scans are OK.

Over the next few weeks I shall post some early articles and pics which feature the clinic model. If anyone else has some content to add, please do.

Here are three pics to get things going.

(both of these are high res)

An early factory pic.

Please enjoy.

Re: The Clinic Model Thread

Great idea for a thread Martin.

Here are some decent, but less frequently seen, images of the Clinic Model.

I am still searching for a shot of it painted blue which may or may not have actually occurred. As you may recall:

Inside the AutoCar "McLaren's Road Car" book it mentions the car as the 'Studio Model' and says "Originally finished in bright silver ("Magnesium"), it's since been painted red, blue and is currently yellow."

Here's a drawing someone did for a calendar that is clearly based on the styling details of the Clinic Model:

I think I won that item when it was listed on Ebay, but all my F1 stuff is packed away at the moment.

Re: The Clinic Model Thread

Great idea Le Man; can't wait for the early articles as I wasn't as 'in' to the Mclaren back then as I am now.

Re: The Clinic Model Thread

The scans must be OK, So here is another one. Performance Car Jan 93.

I think this, was about the best F1 article, printed at that time.

Please enjoy. opcorn:

Erik, not sure if the clinic model was ever painted blue. Or at least, I have not seen any evidence of this. But it would be great to be proven wrong, I just love the F1 in blue.

Re: The Clinic Model Thread

Nice work so far Le Man - I'm drawing a blank as to whether I have either of those in my library so its great to get high quality scans of them. As a special request, would you be able to take a photo of the cover from each magazine article you share?

Meanwhile - I am blatantly stealing this content from one of sauc3's posts in his scan thread:

Enjoy.
I don't recall where I borrowed these from, but they were probably shared here before. This is from SportAuto - July 1992. My apologies if French is not your language (mine neither) but the images contained within these pages are indeed very nice.

Anyone up for translating and retyping those pages for us would be my hero for at least a day.

Re: The Clinic Model Thread

It's really a pity that the production F1 wasn't featured with those high mirrors as well as those round lights beside the front air intakes...

Re: The Clinic Model Thread

Thanks for the cover shots LeMan - I believe that I do have that issue of Performance Car Magazine and I recall seeing the other on Ebay once, but didn't end up picking it up. I shall keep watch for it as I do like owning the hard copies too.

Re: The Clinic Model Thread

A pair of nice pictures supplied to the McLarenAutomotive website via Sutton Images:

Here's a 1/43rd scale reproduction of the Clinic Model that I had not seen before until quite recently:

It looks like an AutoBarn model in some ways, but it isn't part of their lineup. The close up of the base says "by Chameleon Motors" but the source where I found the pics listed it as a M.Fabrik kit put out by Davis & Giovanni and built by Garage43. Anyway, whomever made it seems to have tried to get most of the details correct - the taillamps, the vent on the rear engine cover and the shape of the door button recess are the only glaring inaccuracies that I noticed that would differ from the Clinic Model's original look.

Although a repost (but this time a higher resolution ), here are the pics I took of that car back in 1993:
