2001 1500 dies after warmed up

I just picked up a 2001 1500 2WD 5.2L 5 speed today. It started up and ran great. I drove it around town then took it out on the freeway. After it was fully warmed up, I exited the freeway and stopped at a stop sign. The engine died and when I start it back it, it dies again unless I hold the throttle pedal down (keep the revs about 1k).

I pulled out a spark plug on either side of the motor and they look good. I'm not getting an engine light. All of the vacuum lines look to be connected as far as I can tell. It just won't stay started now or idle. What should be my first troubleshooting step from here?

Thanks,
-mark

Clean the throttle body and idle air control.

Re: 2001 1500 dies after warmed up

I worked on a Camaro that ran good cold but ran poor hot and wouldn't start hot.
The ignition coil was bad....I guess the internal insulation wa breaking down when hot.

Re: 2001 1500 dies after warmed up

Thanks.
I saw similar issues with other vehicles on the internet so I got up Sunday morning and pulled the IAC off. It was covered with gunk. After cleaning it up it ran fine all day.

Re: 2001 1500 dies after warmed up

I'm really enjoying this truck (now). It has a ton of miles on it, about 246,000, but seems to run really well. The engine is very smooth. There's no maintenance receipts so I'm not sure what has been done to it so far.
