Leaking Oil [pictures]

My mom ran over something she thought was only a bag and now today i see there is a leak thats dripping pretty bad. I would just like to know any insight you might have on it. Thanks.

Im not sure why the liquid looks red in the picture but its def oil, as i used a white piece of paper to let it drip on. Must have been the flash or something.

Click here for pic, its pretty big though

Re: Leaking Oil [pictures]

I suspect that fluid is red because it is actually transmission fluid rather than engine oil. The area it's leaking from is where the engine flywheel mates to the tranaxle (aka "transmission"). If it wasn't leaking until she ran over something in the road, then there's a chance the transmission housing is damaged. I hope that's not the case (no pun intended), and instead it's a seal. But, unfortunately the transaxle would need to be removed to determine why it's leaking, and that's not an inexpensive task.

The fluid appears to be in good shape (nice and pink). Is there a chance the transmission was recently serviced and maybe was overfilled? As the fluid got up to temperature, it started to vent out?

Well it wasnt recently serviced, but by the look of it, it didnt start until today judging by the puddle and the way its dripping. Its really hot out today also.

Re: Leaking Oil [pictures]

Well, let me ask the simple question, have you checked the fluid levels, oil, trans, radiator, to see if any have dropped? I'd suggest fill what may be low, drive it-or let it sit awhile, see if it drops again.
I'm leaning with shorod at this time, trans. fluid leakage.

An idea, was trans. fluid added recently prior to her incident? Could be just some overspill showing up, but I doubt it.
