I have a 97 528 with 80000. It has developed an oil lead which I thought was a gasket, but after having someone inspect it, they say there is a plug in the rear side of the engine that is leaking. What plug would this be, and can it be fixed or does it need to be replaced? Thanks, Bryan

Re: Oil Leak - Oil Plug?
a 'galley' plug is possible but are they sure it's not the cam cover gasket leaking down? If it's from 'inside' the bell housing, the rear crankshaft seal housings can warp and cause a leak just replacing the rear main seal alone won't fix !

Re: Oil Leak - Oil Plug?
The oil plugs are directly under the engine. They go horiziontaly or straight down. The plug you might be looking at is maybe under the windsheild. Thats the transmission plug. I wouldnt touch that.
