Should I reseal valves on '01 Taurus AC compressor?
We had the ac recharged on an '01 Taurus we just bought. Leaked out in a couple of weeks. Shop will charge ~$800 to replace compressor, dryer and tube. (Just about half the value of the car.) Can the valves just be resealed/replaced on a compressor? Or is it not worth it?

Re: Should I reseal valves on '01 Taurus AC compressor?
Did the shop actually investigate to find the source of the leak, or are they giving a "worst case" estimate based on rather common areas to cause leaks? The valves in the compressor are not practical to "reseal" but the schrader valve can be replaced relatively easily if the system is evacuated of refrigerant.

Re: Should I reseal valves on '01 Taurus AC compressor?
Didn't think to ask them. They were just giving "worse case scenario" and the $ amount to fix the problem. I was just planning on purchasing and replacing the compressor, but thought I'd ask about the valves first.
