'01 Taurus Moisture in Headlight Lens
I saw moisture in the left headlight lens. I thought it was because I had used a self-service car wash and the high pressure had forced water in there. A day later, the LOW COOLANT light went on. I had a hole in the upper radiator hose, and the steam entered the headlight housing from the back.
The hose has been repaired. Now, about two weeks later, there is moisture in the lens again. I DO NOT believe in coincidences. Would the dealership have had to remove the headlight assembly to replace the upper hose assembly? Could there be a leak in the new hose (the coolant resevoir level has not decreased since I noticed the "new" moisture). Or..is it REALLY a coincidence and maybe a minutely cracked lens cover? I'm going to try to pin it on FORD anyway. THANKS!!! |

Re: '01 Taurus Moisture in Headlight Lens
There's always been issues with the headlight units, some fail quickly, others last for years,, some are so yellow I don't know how the headlights even make a difference,, seals must fail or maybe there are small fractures from road vibration, just like a piece of insulated glass, seal fails, fills up with moisture and dirt.. I would think the dealer would cover it under warranty.

No, they didn't have to remove the headlight housing for replacement of the upper hose.
The moisture is in there because there is a crack somewhwere in the housing permitting moisture tio enter. The housing is incredibly easy to remove, it's only one hex head screw, and two metal tabs which need to be pulled up (and out). |

Re: '01 Taurus Moisture in Headlight Lens
if you take a small drill bit like 1/8 or 1/16 and drill a little hole in the bottom corner of the lense on the head like within a weelk the moisture will have left the head light, it's not pretty, but not very noticable and could save u a couple of bucks, i hae done it with a few cars and have all come out clear
