Brake Rotors question

When the brake rotors have been machined once in the past, is there a possibility they can be turned for the next brake pad replacement or is that the end of life for the rotors?

This depends purely on measurement. Depends on how much was cut last time and how much needs cut next time. The rotors will need measured at the time of replacing the pads and judged at that point as to if there is enough to cut.

they will take a micromentor to them when you take them to have them turned to see if they can be turned. after you do brakes for awhile you can tell by looking at them after awhile.

I think I misunderstood what the word "turn" meant....

is the correct definition in this case that the rotor is simply "resurfaced" and that is what they mean by "turning"?

YES turning is machining the rotors. they can only be cut so much by law. if say you had deep grooves when they were last cut -this time they may fall into that -last cut -buy new rotors scenerio. When in doubt I buy new and don't ever buy the cheap ones --they suc-. The metal they are made of is junk. Don't cheap out on brakes especially in a Jeep.

Okay, I'll verify that they will order quality rotors. I like this shop I found here where I moved. Same 2 people running it for 35yrs, 4wd repair shop and when I needed my rear bearings replaced the mechanic took me back to the shop and explained how the differential functions (he took the cover off to show me) and the work that he was going to do. I've never had a shop do that for me before.
They've been straight with me so far & I feel like I can trust them. So if they say the rotors have to go, I'm fine with that.

Its good u found a nice shop. I they say they can be saved then I would belive them. most of the bottom line rotors are made from chinese steel and they don't last a damn-they warp get hot/hard spots for an extra $15 a piece yop can get much better quality .you can also buy zillion $$$$$ rotors but take the mechs word on em.

now day's it's hard to find a shop like that i would keep it..another thing if you do something wrong they will tell 30 people and if you do right they'll only tell maybe 5 people because they want to keep it to thereself. you can ask about anyone that's been threw this but i'm glad you found it.
