97 PA found antifreeze in air duct between air filter and throttle body

i have a 97 PA with almost 200K. i have been adding antifreeze quite a bit for the past few months without noticing any drips on the ground or inside the engine compartment. after finally noticing a drip near the bottom of the air filter compartment, i investigated and discovered that antifreeze is collecting in the tube between the throttle body intake and the air filter compartment. any idea what is causing this?

Sounds like your uim (upper intake manifold)has failed and when the engine stops the antifreeze under pressure is going into the throttle body and running out the intake area towards the air filter,a pressure test would confirm this, good luck.

Sounds more like the throttlebody gasket, but could be the UIM. Normally I hear about the throttle body gasket leaking externally, but I suppose it could leak into the intake.

Check here for more info. I got lots of good info from BNaylor. Once fixed properly (this includes doing both UIM and LIM gaskets), you will never have trouble with it again.

Re: 97 PA found antifreeze in air duct between air filter and throttle body

a pressure test confirmed that the upper intake manifold was leaking right by the throttle body. performed a UIM and LIM replacement. no more leaks, and car started up and ran just fine. drove it 50 miles on highway after and no leaks. however, next morning, started up car and heard ticking. after a few minutes, ticking ceased. now this occurs every time i start car. will post problem in new thread.

Glad to hear that you got the repair done on the uim & lim and I would think you changed the oil and filter when finished and if so its sounds like a lifter is losing pressure over night and taking time to refill when starting cold,I would give it about a week and change the oil and filter again see whether it improves, just be sure you use the correct weight oil.
