What are the steps for changing a thermostat?
How do I drain some fluid out of the radiator?

See link below for tech procedure and pics.

Change Thermostat Series II 3800 Engine

You really don't need to drain any coolant out of the radiator. Just make sure engine is cold. When you undo the upper radiator hose some coolant will drain out but have a container there to catch it.

thanks for the information and I think I did it right but now I can't get the bolt on the left or the passenger side bolt to go all the way down. I don't remember if it went down to the nut in the center or not.

I guess I have to take everything apart again.
