Check engine codes, and questions about my ls.. Plz help
I bought a 00 v6 sports pkg and I am in the process of getting the clockspring replaced. I have noticed a little slip in the transmission (atleast thats what it feels like to me) when I am going between 40-50mph and was wondering how serious that is. Is this something that i have to have done right away? Also would the Lucas transmission lubricant help with this. I took the car to aamco to get the trans and check engine check and they told me I needed my transmission rebuilt but I only feel a little slip only when going between 40-50. They also pulled these codes on the check engine p1565 p0430 p0171 p0174 and p1112. How can I fix these? What do they mean, Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Check engine codes, and questions about my ls.. Plz help
I'd certainly suggest you start with the diagnostic codes before spending any money on the transmission. You'll probably find fixing the codes "fixes" the transmission as well. The P0171 and P0174 are very well-known codes for the V6 LS. There's an 11-page thread about them so I won't go in to the detail here. You can either check the LS forum thread listing or use the "Search this forum" feature.
The P0430 code indicates that the Catalyst System Efficiency for bank 2 is below the threshold. I wouldn't worry about this code until you get a few of the others fixed, but you will want to address the others before you drive this car much longer or you will destroy the very expensive catalytic converters. Code P1112 indicates that the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is intermittent. This is probably the issue that's causing what you are feeling as transmission slip and could very well be the source of the P0430 code. I'd start with this code. Code P1565 isn't listed in the Powertrain section of the factory service manual for the 2002 model year. I'd have to do more digging which I don't have time for this morning. If someone else doesn't define that code before this evening I'll search some more. -Rod |

P1565 - Speed Control Command Switch Out Of Range High
This is going to be because of the clockspring. Never go to any chain transmission shop, AAMCO stands for All Automatics Must Come Out. Their standard answer to any problem is to replace the transmission, and they usually do a bad job at that. It's easy to confuse and engine problem for a transmission problem. Fix the engine issues first. Lucas or any other additive is a bad idea. A complete fluid exchange is a good idea. |

Got the same (p1565) code. What is a clockspring and how do you fix it? Thanks.
