Check engine codes and some carb tuning
Since i'm not using a stock carb i am naturally getting some check engine codes. I got the timing right and its running, but shaky. Heres what i got: 21 (throttle position sensor), 23 (Mixture control solenoid), and 34 (Differential Pressure sensor) "whatever that is?".
The question is, could these codes be making my engine run shaky? Or could a badly tuned carb cause this? I mean, it idles on its own quite well and it doesnt bog. It almost feels like it could be a bad plug wire..i'll have to test those later. Heres a video of how it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pn7EDY5AgwI "Video quality will improve once its finished processing"

Re: Check engine codes and some carb tuning
21 - The TPS signal is not present
23 - MC solenoid is not connected. 34 - BARO/MAP sensor input is unacceptably high (disconnected). You can burn a custom PROM and shut off those codes, or you can install a E4ME and BARO sensor and they will go away on their own. You could eliminate the ECM but will lose TCC without installing a stand-alone transmission controller.

Re: Check engine codes and some carb tuning
Having the base timing off a few degrees won't cause any shaking. There is likely a miss from mixture problems. I've run SBCs from +6 to -18° BTC with no problems. Check vacuum hoses, carb flange, and intake leaks, then go to work on the mixture and bowl level if there are no leaks.
What carb is installed? There may be misalignment and gaps at the base to the intake connection.

Re: Check engine codes and some carb tuning
Is this on a stock intake? There may be gaps around the perimeter allowing leaks.

Re: Check engine codes and some carb tuning
I'm also using an Edlebrock Performer intake manifold. I'm pretty sure i messed up the timing after all the research i just did. I didn't unplug the 4 pin plug from the distributor when i set the timing.

Re: Check engine codes and some carb tuning
If you're still using the stock distributor the EST might be hunting all over the place trying to set timing once it's all plugged back in. Try running it with the distributor EST unplugged and verify the base timing. If it still misses with stable base timing check mixture.
Thankfully you don't have a Holley. You may have a chance of making the Carter-Brock run right, but you'll eventually have to deal with the ECM.
