'99 Park Avenue will turn over but won't start

Car has been running sluggish for a while now but otherwise has had no signs of any problems. Then when attempting to head home after a nice Thanksgiving dinner it wouldn't start. Sounds like the fuel pump is turning on and I tried spraying starter fluid into the intake but that didn't work. 6 months ago I put new plugs, wires, coils, and an ICM in to cure a bad misfire which worked so I don't think it could be that considering those are all new.

A couple times while it would run very sluggish the check engine light came on, but went off shortly after that. The only code it's reading now is a P0102 which is Mass or Volume Air Flow A Circuit low input. So I guess the MAF sensor could be bad but my main question is if the MAF went bad would it cause the car to not start at all? Because my understanding is that it would cause the car to run sluggish but not prevent it from starting at all. I'll test it to see if it's bad but are there any other idea's that would cause this?

Re: '99 Park Avenue will turn over but won't start

Had stumbling and stalls in my '99 P/A Ultra. It finally gave a code. ( P0102 ) Replaced the MAF sensor. Problem ceased. Proceeded to monitor the coolant temperature. Never higher than 160 F even as I ran it up through the mountains to Tupper Lake. Changed out the thermostat. Much better on the display.. 196F.

Generally..if it looks like a rose... smells like a rose.... its a rose. Tough going for that $100 plus MAF sensor.

Re: '99 Park Avenue will turn over but won't start

yeah 3.8.

The code that came up, P0102, must have been an old code from when the CEL came on when it was running very sluggish because I cleared the code and tried to start it again and it failed to start and also failed to give me a code. So now I know why it was running sluggish but not sure why it won't start at all now. I tried unplugging the MAF sensor and it didn't help either.

and now it's starting to act funny when I try to start it. For one it sounds like I'm draining the battery, and 2 once or twice all the gauges go berserk for a few seconds when I'm turning it over. Now the car is just starting to act possessed.

Do you have spark when it won't start, just basics here.

Re: '99 Park Avenue will turn over but won't start

To be honest I haven't fully checked the spark because about 6 months ago it had a bad miss that resulted in replacing plugs, wires, coils, and the ignition control module. Any idea's on where else a faulty spark could be? I'll definitely check to make sure I have spark to all the plugs though to be safe.

Do you think I would get a OBD-ii code if it was missing a spark though? Because I'm not showing any as of now.

YES, disconnect the MAF and see if it will start.

Re: '99 Park Avenue will turn over but won't start

Okay, here's an update on what I tried today.

-Unplugged the MAF and tried to start
-cleaned the MAF with MAF cleaner
-checked all fuses: all looked good
-checked there was spark to all 3 coil packs: getting spark
-checked belts : they're okay
-tried starter fluid in the intake again
-unplugged the battery and let the computer reset
-used an OBDii scanner to look for codes: found non

getting to be at quite a loss here. Looking like i'm going to have to tow it to a mechanic unless anyone can think of any other problems.

Re: '99 Park Avenue will turn over but won't start

Check the coolant level in the radiator. If the level looks to be low remove some of the spark plugs to see if they look fouled. If they do see if it looks like coolant.

Our P.A. had the intake plenumn losing coolant into the intake the other day.

Re: '99 Park Avenue will turn over but won't start

Well it's running now. Called to have it towed to a shop and the tow driver fired it right up. Told him I was getting spark and fuel so he tried starting it with the pedal to the floor which apparently adds air instead of fuel. Been running fine since with the exception of the passenger side heat not working now.
