2000 Kia Sportage died on fwy. Will Turn over but not start...HELP

I have a 2000 Kia Sportage 2wd that completely died on me while driving on the fwy. When I coasted to side of road and tried to restart, it will turn over and make a "wrrrrrrrrr" (I know..very technical) noise but just not fire up.

Had it towed and the timing belt was deemed good. Timing checked as well. Replaced the fuel filter and the battery (as we thought that was the orig problem since it's pretty old). But it still is not starting. It will start to rev up (not sure if I'm using the right terminology) as if it's goig to start but just won't start.

Upon looking a lot of forums, it seems to be a pretty common problem with these engines and the next step would be the crankshaft sensor.

But before I spend another hundred dollars, any other suggestions? I need all the help I can get!! Thanks!

first see if you can hear the fuel pump buzzing when you turn the key, you'll need another person to @ the fuel cap to heart it buzz for a second or two... thats a good place to start if you dont have a code scanner.

funny I am having the same problem with my 01 sportage. Its a the shop now been there for a week and he can't figure out why it wont start either?! He has checked everything I get power so it's not the battery he says its not the fule pump or the fule injector, so what else could it be?? I don't want to have him change my ecm if that's not the problem, Im wondering if its my wiring harness that needs to be replaced? Any suggestions for me as well?
