The Aveo has a habit of retaining a 1/2 quart of oil when changes are done. This means that if you don't let it sit or drain for at least 1/2 hour before adding 4 quarts of oil it will show 1/2 quart high of the top mark of the dip stick tube. Rather than have it 1/2 quart high I just let it sit for a half an hour before closing the oil drain plug. Of course, if you have an oil change done by one of the conglomerates you will always be a 1/2 quart high. When getting my oil changed by one of them I explained this to them and they let it drain for half an hour before replacing the oil. They weren't very busy that day. I've no idea why the engine is designed this way. Perhaps it is because if the drain isn't complete there is enough oil left in the engine to maintain pressure before the pump kicks in. I don't know. All I know is that my Aveo reads 1/2 quart high above the full mark when I get the oil change done at a quick lube place. It doesn't hurt for this to happen. Doesn't make any difference. The only drawback of this kind of situation is that you'll always have a 1/2 quart of dirty oil in the engine. Hope I've expalained the sitation to head scratchers out there. Dave
