I didn't but man I'm regretting it now. Just do it and your car will be fine. My car is having problems right now because of that I think.

Re: Oil Change + Oil Filter Change

It's a good idea to change the filter. But not the end of the world. Shit, I only change oil about every 5k miles and the filter every other time. But I use Mobil 1. If you don't use synthetic oil, I'd suggest Valvoline.

you should change your filter.

if the filter element gets clogged the filter goes into a sort-of bypass mode, rather than a clogged dirty filter preventing the flow of oil it bypasses the filter which means that you are now pumping unfiltered oil through your engine...really bad stuff.

filter wear varies due to driving conditions and filter quality, some can continue working for far longer than 3000 miles, but is it worth it to risk engine damage? i don't think so.

basically new oil and filters are cheap insurance against engine damage and wear.

well, the filter gets plugged up long before the life of the oil is done. A filter is only a couple bucks, much less than a new engine.

filter is like 7 bucks max....oil is like 3 bucks a quart.... 4*3=12+7= bout 20bucks wit tax...its not bad to keep the car running well and safely for 20. id rather pay 20 than 3k for a new engine....
