1997 TC won't keep running; shuts off immediately

My pastor's 1997 Town Car won't keep running after starting. It starts fine and runs about 10 seconds and shuts off. I retrieved the trouble codes P0171 and P0174. Too lean bank 1 and bank 2. I didn't think these trouble codes would shut an engine down like this one is. I'm not sure what I should check to see what is bad and causing the engine to shut down. I did push on the shrader valve on the fuel bar and it spit gas out so I'm confident it has gas going to the injectors. As a side note I own a 1998 Windstar and last year I had this same problem. I had to remove my upper intake manifold and clean out ports on the valves. I had to take a pick tool and remove carbon build up and clean this area. I don't remember exactly what they were called but it had to do with the EGR system. But my Windstar did not just shut down like this Town Car is doing. Please advise as to what I should be checking and where each component is located on this TC. I would guess the trouble codes all deal with the same thing even if the engine is different. I looked all thru the threads for Town Cars and apparently people that own these cars don't try and fix problems like this. I couldn't find much info at all for these trouble codes. I'm sure someone has an answer. Thanks for the help in advance.
