Angry 97 GA 3.1 Engine shutting off immediately after start

I have a 1997 Grand Am SE with a 3.1 engine. The car has about 196500 miles. Almost every time I start the engine, it will start, rev up but then immediately stop. Sometimes it will over rev to 2-3 grand, sometimes not. It restarts then fine.

It has been doing this for about 20,000 miles, but is getting progressively worse. At first it would only do it on cold starts, but now it does it almost every time. The only time it wouldn't is when it was warm outside and I had just driven the car, like going to a gas station. I am not sure if this is connected at all.

In the past, I took it to Autozone, and they said that they could not read my computer, like the terminal was not connected. It appears that all the wires are there but it is a dead terminal. They suggested that I clean the IAC valve, but that didn't work. I even tried to replace it, with no luck.

I am mechanically inclined so I can do the repairs if anyone has any suggestions on where to look. I am just out of ideas.

When it restarts, it operates just fine. I could go on like this, which I may have to, but I am worried about the starter or possibly that this is the beginning of something else that is major.
Thanks in advance of any help.
