Question 95 civic ex engine questions

I have a 95 civic ex with a d16z6 that im planning on turning into a sleeper. Since I know little about honda engines, is the d16z6 a respectable engine worth rebuilding and adding aftermarket parts to or would I be better off swapping out the engine? If so what engine would I swap in?

Thanks

nope, your motor won't be good for what you're looking for. Definately go for a swap. I would recommend a B18C1 out of an Acura Integra GSR

there are many single cam hondas that are in the 12's. It all depends on what you want to do. anybody can go fast in a b series car but what do you say when your b series gets beat by a tuned d series?

your d16z6 is fine for building up! you can build what is called a "junkyard" turbo. it is made up of talon/eclipse turbo and other parts. can run 10-14 psi and it will run you around $2000 to hook up.

here is a 12 sec 88 DX (turbo his d15b2 sohc non vtec)
link

here is a link with more info on a junkyard:
junkyard link

dropshop can custom weld it up for ya:
dropshop boost

all you ever hear is the trendy "b series"...don't let anyone ever try and tell you the d series is junk. just because it isn't trendy and the engine comes stock doesn't mean it's no good/junk

yes, you can make that engine run 12s. But wouldn't it be a lot easier to start with a 170 hp, 128 ft/lbs of torque engine instead of a 125 hp, 106 ft/lbs of torque engine.

Then which engine would be better to put a supercharger on? the b18 or the d16?

not in IMO. it's easier to leave the stock engine in and turbo. it's also cheaper. not only would it be cheaper to turbo than to swap in a b series but, it is also cheaper for d than b series aftermarket parts. go price a clutch, header, cams (or cam gears), or any other part. costs much more.

i don't know about you, but when it comes to my race car i don't care about name brands. i'd rather take pride in my little set-up which costs half as much and still get the job done.

slow down and read. i said you can build off that turbo and other parts. that is including turbo mani, intercooler, blow off valve, injectors, hondata (or vafc), and so on.....i obviously wouldn't buy just a T25 turbo for $2000.

I'd rather have name brand, quality, realiable items on my car, not junk from a yard.

I don't believe in name brand either... after all... I have heard more complaints about name brands like Jackson Racing Superchargers then you could shake a stick at!
Don't forget.... Pacesetter is a well known name brand too... but would you have any of their products on your car?

Name brands aren't always best!

Did you read that article about that 88 Civic DX? Is pretty cool!

You don't have to start the motor off running 10-14psi directly... could start off with 5-6, and as you build your motor up the pressure could be increased...
In the end, less money would still be spent then swapping in a Bseries motor, and trying to build it up and the Dseries would be running just as fast!
Plus you'd be able to to tell people "Bseries? I don't need no stinkin' Bseries!"

the only thing out of a junkyard is the actual T25 and 9 times out of ten you get it used from somebody and not out of an acutal junkyard.

j.fuggi too.

it's a real trend to roll around un-tuned. give me a break. ANY car with ANY set-up won't run well if it isn't tuned.

ndekens, read the links i sent. i know for a fact dropshop ran and is running his set up just as it says on that site. you should e-mail him. he'll give you ALL the options. not just the trendy ones....
