Thinking about purchasing a G20

Hey guys, I am looking to purchase a G20. I want to get a 93.5+ because of its dual airbag and standard sunroof and such, but my price range is around 4K. I dont think I can get one at that price. So I guess i will settle for a 91-92. Anyway I just got a few questions about it.

How is the car overall? What kind of packages and trims in the 91-92 model? I am looking for one with black leather interior with black or white exterior. How is the automatic transmission on it? What should the things I should be looking at when I go look for it?

First of all, you might be able to find a 93.5 in that price range...some people on this forum have been so lucky.

Second, you're asking us how the car is overall? Many of us have no life outside of the G20. We love it!
The G20 is Consumer Reports' highest rated car for reliability. Ever.
The G20 is on the recommended list for safety with the number-one insurance provider in Europe. (As the Nissan Primera.)
The G20 is a fairly uncommon auto, so you will get some looks, especially if you're in Canada.
The G20 comes standard with many, many features so there's no chance of you getting stuck with a non-cruise-control model.

I'm not an expert in 1991-1992...someone else here will have to help you with that.

I seriously doubt you'll find one with black leather interior, unless it was an aftermarket install. I have seen: Blue velour, tan velour, grey velour, and cream leather. Plastic comes in black, brown, and maybe blue.
I have the Black/Cream leather interior and it looks very sharp.

I am not an expert on automatic trannys either, but it is MUCH better than that crappy Mitsubishi Mirage rental car I drove once. It gives you Overdrive lockout/downshift, and 3 modes. So if you're used to a stick, like I am, it'll give you something to work with. I get around 25 mpg usually.

When you're checking the car out, on a stick shift check for 5th gear popout, apparently this happens at highway speeds.
If the fan only works on speed 4, don't worry, this is a $20 instant fix. This is a common problem with these cars. Another common problem is that the hydraulics in the trunk wear out. This just means you can save your gym membership fee and work out in your garage instead.

If you buy one, you will surely enjoy it. Look around, check Autotrader.com, etc. Good luck...

boingo pretty much says everything I can think of. Just look around here and you will find tons of info. Personnally I would highly recomend the G20. I just bought a 92 back in August and I absolutly love it. I have a 92 Pearl G20 with tan interior leather and sunroof. I love the car it is the best car I have ever driven. Not too many problems so far had to replace a clutch- my fault though had to learn. but the car runs better than my last car a 98 Saturn I wouldnt drive another SAturn if they paid me. If you settle for a 92 beware it has automatic seatbelts they aren't too bad but somep people hate them. another plus to the G20 though is all the people on here they are all so helpful if there is any thing that you find you wanna fix just ask here or look around someone almost always has an answer. Its not a popular car but there sure are a lot of people on here that can help.
Sorry this is so long Hope you get something meaningful though. Good luck and I hope you fall ion love with a G20 also.

The G20 is an absolutely awesome car for the price and for what it is.

I bought my 1993 in September (standard transmission and with a damaged title) for $3000 including tax, title, and liscense. Basically, all the problems have been listed above. Most of the problems are an easy fix, and are typically not very expensive.

Any questions you have are probably already answered, and can be found by using the AF.com search function. Basically, I hope your search is fruitful because we ALL are madly in love with our cars!

Hey, that looks pretty nice. I have black leather but I wish mine had a black exterior.

That's a dirty engine bay though.

No you don't. I just totaled a black car. While they look darned good while the paint is new and they're waxed, that all changes fast. No other color shows "door" marks as much either. Well, I guess black is good if you're willing to wash and wax every week. And if you don't have to park next to guys with "door opening disorder" like I do.

Thank heavens I don't have black leather. It looks great but we had 110+ temperatures last summer for more than a month straight, with a high of 117 in July. Those temps, + black car, + black leather, + uncovered parking = hell on wheels.

I'll settle with silver.

Ooh, I did think of another bit of a problem... but not that bad of one.

The rear calipers tend to rust and freeze in place. I think that was the first thing I had to have fixed after I bought my car, but my dad and I were able to find the parts and do that repair ourselves.

Yeah, I hear ya. My AE is like the one of the whitest cars out there. Then I go buy another car and it ends up being white. I wish I coulda found a Silver or Blue G20t, but I only found my white one so I went for it.
