Thinking About Purchasing a CRX
I'm currently a teenager looking at the prospect of a CRX as a first car. My friend's brother has owned two, and I found myself intrigued in both cases. It seems like a nice car, and a good value. It's something that I can get cheaply in the beginning, and then invest in later on. My current position requires that I get a car soon, so it would be nice to get a cheap car that is easily upgraded. I'm not exactly familiar with the models, although I am aware that the Si is the higher-performance version. I'm also not sure of the average price to expect to pay for a car. At the moment, I'm looking for the cheapest available model (I would prefer 2nd generation, but any is fine). Is there any advice on what I should do, as well as the advantage between models? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Go with a 2nd Gen and make sure its manual, and if your looking for one cheap its prlly gona have rust, so read as much as you can on body repair, unless your gona pay someone else to do it.

Re: Thinking About Purchasing a CRX
all i hafta say is - don't go any higher than $3500. An Si in good shape may be worth more, but not much more than $3000, and for that price it better be in good condition. Are you looking for jus a daily driver, or a tuner car? (which you hinted at when you said you could invest in the car).
Definitely get a manual if you're going the performance route. I have an auto, and it's fine for my needs, but i have yet to find out how hard it is to work with in getting power to the ground. Plus how many engine swaps do you hear about that have automatic transmissions? All manuals. And be sure to look for rust. If you don't have much money to invest in it now, you're going to have to live with those rust spots for a while. Even if it has no rust, i'd go ahead and start looking for an auto body shop that you can trust and have heard good things about. After 14 years, the stock paint is probably chipped, some dents, clear coat peeling off, etc. And you might want the color changed ![]() That's just my 2 and a half cents ^_^

Re: Thinking About Purchasing a CRX
ill make it a nickle, i agree with ice_x, plus, any one can drve an auto, foot on break shift to D for foward and push gas, when it comes to power, you will learn your power band and know when you need to shift up or down for what you need, it gives you a feel of more controll over the car

Re: Thinking About Purchasing a CRX
sorry for the doubble post, dont feel like editiing, and i know someone wont agree with me, but if you have a tractor supply co. arround you, and access to a vertical or pressure air spray gun, tractor paint and clear coat will leave a really nice shine and they have over 20 colors to choose from, just remember you want high gloss oil based paint, and around 30 bux per gallon instead of a hundred and some for automotive paint plus labor if you cant do it

I don't condone BLU CIVIC, get a CRX. If you are going to do a motor swap of some sort later on down the road and want a cheaper, better gas mileage car for starters, get the HF. The gas mileage is insane, it's lighter weight, but it's a cow untill you do a swap. If you're not planning on doing a motor swap later on, then get an Si. Can be pretty peppy with basic mods. CRX's are awesome. |
