Thinking about Purchasing
Currently I have chevy s-10 pick up that is impractical for me since there is no interior space. I don;t need that much space but I play ice hockey and need room to put my pads. I have been considering a Grand Cherokee for a while now, but have read a lot of reviews about bad transmissions, transfer cases, brakes/rotors ect. I was just wondering if this really is that common or if it is generally just people that beat the crap out of them. I don;t put very many miles on my vehicles and generally just use them for city driving. Occasionally it will be used to tow my dad's boat(about 2500lbs). I would appreciate any feedback I could get on this.

I own a 1995 JGC and I'm finding minor issues with it now . I have under 80000 miles . It has had major issues that cost almost $5000 . I say if you have a Chevy truck and your happy with the over all effect it gives you then get a locking cab cover . You never go bad with a Chevy ! Just my thoughts ! Good luck

Re: Thinking about Purchasing
If your buying new, you get a 7 year, 70 000mile warrenty so you shouldnt have to worry about the tranny for a while, you will be able to tow your boat easily if you get the V8 engine, that is what I have in my 2003, its very powerful. I have only had my Jeep for 1 year though, so I dont know what it will be like once I get like 50-60,000 miles on it..

weather to buy a JGC or not
I just recently purchased a 95 GC with 100K miles on it. 4L/6cyl engine. My mechanic checked it out and only found some minor stuff that needed fixing.
The vehicle cost 5K at a dealer and I also purchased a 5yr/150k mile power train warranty. So far I am impressed with the car. It runs well, has enough power to tow a trailer that weighs 3000lbs and is comfortable. In town mpg is 15, highway is 20mpg. When I was looking for a GC to buy I found many of them with 180K, 225K etc miles that were still in decent running condition. I think for the money it's a good buy. Peter |

Re: Thinking about Purchasing
I appreciate everybody's input. I think I am going to buy a GC. I have loved them for a long time now and finally have the cash to get one. I found a 2000 Grand Cherokee limited. 4.7L V-8 quadra drve system. Fully loaded minus a sunroof. Has 48,000 miles and has an 8 year, 80,000 mile warranty left on it. They are asking $14,000. I think I am going to go check that out and if it is nice make an offer.

Re: Re: Thinking about Purchasing
I think GC are a great truck..I bought a 99 2 years ago but I was in a rush..I shouldn't have rushed..Things to look for when buying..Check the rotors..I have had to replace the front and I am working on the back soon..They generate so much heat..Also check your engine to make sure there are not any vibrations of any sort..I have a rough idle that surges and I can't figure how to get rid of it...I know if I raise the RPM somehow to .9 it runs smooth..But how I do that I have no idea..Other than that I have have been fortunate so far..I have 49K miles so I am just playing the waiting game with 3 years to go to pay it off...

Thanks for the post. Just an idea about the rough idling on your truck. Have you tried doing a full tune-up on it. I've never experienced it with a jeep since I have never owned on, put past cars of mine have done the same thing. After a full tune up however, than ran great.
