Well yeah if you rice it out it wont be worth more...but ricing out is for teenagers who dont know much about the car world. I'm talking about the 700-900 HP Supras that are always on Ebay going for $35,000, when they would normally go for $20,000. Rice is cheap, cheap body kit, wing, cheap rims, and maybe some cheap paint on a cheap car. Doesn't matter what you do to a cheap car, you can't make it more valueable unless you do something drastic which more than likely you would spend more than the increase in value. But if you say turbo a S2000, or 350Z it'll increase the value because they're sports cars, and the only people interested in sports cars are people that want to go faster, therefore they are willing to pay more for a car that will go faster. But yeah you're right, a riced out pos is just that, still a pos. |

Re: Re: How do I convince my little brother not to waste money on his Geo?
I'd have to agree with geozukigti, you do get a great bang for your buck with Metros, but I'd stick to the Metro Convertibles or Swift GT's. Metros themselves are a dime a dozen, and because they'll never never be considered a candidate car to "trick" out, resale after the nuturing and love has worn off won't translate into dollars for his investment....(no one really wants to buy and show off someone else's trophy work...my two cents).
The creme of the crop vehicles for upgrades if he still wants to love his Suzuki manufactured Swift branded by Geo/Chevy as the "metro" are the Verts, or the convertibles, the Suzuki Swift GTi's and GT's, and the Firefly and Sprint Turbos, also known as T3's (3 cylinder turbos sold in Canada only). The Verts tend to really hold their value, because they are in fact the cheapest convertible you can buy out there in running condition. Metro's in general are cheap to own, since parts for them are abundant, and they are mechanically simple without all the electrical complexities. Swapping in bolt-in upgrades from donor SSGTi's are easy once a cheap donor is located, and he won't have to cash out this college tuition to do it. With hondas and toyotas, there's too much aftermarket stuff to suck all that cash outa pocket. By the time yer bro's finished trickin' out a honda or toyota, he'll be dirt poor and still won't have all the upgrades that could be had. Plus, it's too easy to open the wallet to simply buy the smorgassbord of aftermarket stuff, and that's too easy. Us Vert and Swift GT/i owners have to hunt them down skillfully, almost to the point of obsession. It's ultimately gratifying to score a cheap project and donor, and cobble together a mint ride outa sweat and determination than simply opening up coffers which to me is unchallenging. So, it really depends what kinda addiction you want for your bro, and what he wants outa his obsession as he grows in and out of it. There's nothing wrong with buying what you want...it's called a NEW car. But if he wants a challenge and wants it cheap, the Suzuki Swift and Geo Metro econobox is a great place to start. Quote:

But for the rest of us who like keeping our hard earned cash, the Metro/Swift is a great little car that is easy to work on, inexpensive to operate, and cheap to insure. Picked up my '94 2dr 5spd for $350. Put in blood, sweat, and $400 and now it is my daily commuter. Besides, Metro/Swift peeps are nicer and more helpful than the Honduh/Toyota/etc crowd. So get in your Beamer and enjoy it and be on your way.
