The RS4 offers it's driver easier access to it's best acceleration numbers due to it's awd. But, it doesn't offer near the acceleration to those who can drive well. Also, notice the acceleration numbers to 140. The Cobra cuts off your fun early due to the Mustangs sub-par aerodynamics(140-150 if I recall), but, while a Cobra will pretty handily beat an M3 or RS4 in the 1/4, it destroys them from say 60-130. On the interstate, a Cobra is going to embarass a M3 and decimate a RS4 until you get well into illegal territory. And, how many people are really going to push it past 140mph? When you take into consideration that in reality the SVT powered pony delivers over 400lb-ft of torque at the crank, under-rating be damned, it should outrun them in that kind of match-up. No shame there I said before that both German cars have better handling overall, but lets not get ridiculous with the acceleration thing here. As far as top speed goes for the RS4, I can't tell you what it is but as long as it isn't limited like the Cobra's I am sure it is higher than the Mustangs. So yes, the RS4 pilot will ultimately pass the Cobra, when the Cobra hits it's rev limiter. the 03 cobra rev limiter is also set at 155mph |

but... in any case, it'd AT LEAST be the other way around, b/c the rs4 is faster than an m3... but...

LOL. OOOH This is Great! So good I had to join the forum.
How many of you have actually cruised at 145 miles per hour. I'm not asking how many of you quickly ran the speedo up to 145 and then retreated to 100 or say 65 for fear of being thrown in jail, or because you were worried about bashing into something...I'm talking about cruising at that speed. Well no s**t, there I was, cruising at 135 miles an hour on the Autobahn which incidentally, is about 10 mph from the speed at which the Cobra becomes scary because of the way its supension is tuned, when suddenly I saw a black rs4 come into view in my rear view mirror. He was actually flashing his lights to let me know he was coming through and to stay out of his way. As I let the rs4 pass I am amazed to see that he actually has his whole family in the car. Yes, his wife (presumably) was in the passenger seat, kid in the back. My wife was also somehow sleeping next to me despite the absolute racket that the 32V eight cylinder was making, not to metion all of the friggin' noise from the air that was finding its way through the car's insulation (do they even own a wind tunnel at ford?). Anyway, I figured what she doesn't know won't hurt her (unless we go flying off the road, that is) so I manage to sneak into position next to the audi again and get a better look (Increasing my speed to the mid 140 mph range. Its an absolutely beautiful car and I suddenly find myself having car envy. Eventually (and I swear, this is true) the Audi just walks away from me like I am at a stand-still. He was definitely going more than 160 when he moved out, leaving me in awe. I regularly cruise at about 120 miles an hour, but there was no way I was going to follow him at 150 plus. The Cobra was already starting to drift around with any uneveness in the pavement. So here it is: Cobra - cockpit noise is almost deafening at greater than 120...I bet its not in the Audi. RS4 - Handling at speed is far superior. I witnessed it first hand. Power - both have plenty of it, but the rs4 can actually take advantage of it without careening off the highway when its allowed to do so. The real question...What is your purpose? The same thing that makes the Cobra unbearable on the highway at speeds greater than 120 over a long transit is what makes it fun. It's throaty and loud, but its supposed to be that way. It is a performance/dragster not a highway autobaahn runner. In the snow my cobra is less than worthless and my wife hates it because its "not practical." The rs4 is cleverly disguised and I think I might be able to sneak it past her radar when I move back to Alaska. That is, after all, how I found this thread in the first place. I might even "settle" for A4 or S4 wagon instead. I cant even count how many of them have passed me with their families on board at 140 mph plus. I swear, I'm not exaggerating. Give me a used rs4 any day, cause that's all that I can afford. |
