bump stops?

I was reading though sport compact car's website about the silvia they are building and when they put the jic coilovers on, they mentioned something about bump stoppers. They said that if you lower a 240 you will have problems with bump stoppers. I was planning on just buying springs instead of coilovers and I was wondering how low can you go before you start having problems with these so called bump stoppers.
