whats your tach say when its idle?

whats the normal rpm for an idle on an s14 (ka24de)?

cuz my mine keeps on changing, sometimes it'll say 1200 then 1000 then 900

strange?...yeah, if anyone knows whats causing this or how to fix it, please let me know

i think i may have something to do with fuel, cuz my car sometimes chugs then dies

Re: whats your tach say when its idle?

hmm, both

-like when you first start it
-then when you've been driving around for awhile then stop at a light or something

Re: whats your tach say when its idle?

when I first start it it's around 1400 but then goes down to around 1200. Depending on if I have the ac on or lights etc it differs and becomes around 1000. But rarely does it go below that.

Re: whats your tach say when its idle?

if if have nothing on, its around 800 when warmed up, but around 1200-1400 when i first start it. and everyonce in a while, when im sitting at a light, itll rev on its own to around 1100 then go back down, maybe to start the fan up or something

My car starts high on warm up in the morning. It eventually drops to it's norm.

Multichecker usually sits right at about 750 @ idle. FSM says 650 - 800.

You can adjust it via a screw off the throttle body.

The only time it would jump is when the A/C kicks on.

THanks!
Chris

Re: whats your tach say when its idle?

yea mine jumps too.....mine idles low sometimes at a stop light. like my engine starts jumping around you can feel it shake the car..so i kick on the heater and it gives it an rpm boost and idles fine..then i turn the heater off.
its like the heater is those hard beat pads doctors use to jump start your heart. CLEAR bzzzzzzzz and your back.
i forget what there called.

Re: whats your tach say when its idle?

Hey Chuki...
that would be a defibrillator (sp?).

Check the IACV...that might be the problem!
Just a thought.

Re: whats your tach say when its idle?

IACV - idle air control valve.

Basically this allows air in or out depending on what is needed when the throttle is not opened. The valve may be "stuck".

Re: whats your tach say when its idle?

Haha....o man...WD40 does it all!!! except this...hehe. FUNNY GUY!

There is a lot to the adjustment of the IACV cause you must coincide with the TPS and blah blah blah. I guess the first thing you can do is just look around the throttle body and adjust the screw. I believe the further you back it out, the lower the idle will drop. Sooo....just be careful and have fun!

Re: whats your tach say when its idle?

i know a great trick for fixing any car trouble
1>put your car in first gear
2>rev it up to 8500 rpms
3>drop the cluch
4>ride the brakes while flooring the gas
5>look in your rear veiw and notice that you cant see past your tire smoke

this ALWAYS makes me feel better about any of my car trouble-hope it helps you!
