ABS light flashing - 1990 Silverado
I am the original owner of a 1990 Chevy Silverado and a few months ago the ABS light started flashing.
1 long - 8 short flashes. My local chevy dealer told me that the 90 models were a little 'squirley' when it came to abs and showed me how to reset the abs system by unplugging the abs computer mounted on the master cylender. That stopped the light from flashing - but only for a few weeks. It has returned. Anyone else had this issue?? What solved it?? I can't believe that a warning light goes off for no reason. Thank you all for your responses. |

Re: ABS light flashing - 1990 Silverado
I am not sure of the code relating to 18, but I have seen this condition exist. If you get me the code, we'll go from there. Ray

Ray,
The only code I have is the '18' from the ABS light. There is no OBD code stored. Any help that you can provide would be greatly apriciated. ...Leonard |

Re: ABS light flashing - 1990 Silverado
I own a 90 Silverado (original owner) and just recently my ABS light started to flash and after a few months it now stays on all the time. My mechanic said to disconnect the connection and the light will go off. Does the light mean the ABS is no longer working or is the computer board just no good?
Thanks, Billy |

I would look to make sure that you don't have a leak. I had the same problem (1989 truck) and found a leak in the brake line going to the back of the truck. (it was rusted thru where it was held onto the frame)

Re: ABS light flashing - 1990 Silverado
I also have a 1989 k2500 with a blinking abs light. Unplugging the module only helps for a couple days. I have swapped the abs module with a known good one from a 1992 truck, still the light blinks. As a side note the speedometer intermitantly stops working. The dealer says its a bad cluster, but it has been doing this for 5 years and hasnt completly stopped working. Now what I am getting at is when the speedo quits the brake light comes on. Those anti locks work off the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) same as the speedo does right? Could this somehow be related? Does anybody elses speedo do the same thing?
Does anybody know where the VSS is on the transfer case and how the wires run up to the abs and speedo? Thanks, Bill |

ya'll need to hook up to an ABS friendly scan tool.
KH RWAL systems will reset if you pull the power connector, but if it comes back on, something is upsetting the 'puter |

Re: ABS light flashing - 1990 Silverado
Mine does not set a computer code, just the abs light blinks, I am not shure its a code, rather just random blinks.

Re: ABS light flashing - 1990 Silverado
Is the ALDL the same as the DLC under the dash?

It must be a code of somekind. Any ideas anyone?? 1 long 4 short seems to be common Report Post | IP: Logged |
