Question location of the OBD II plugin under the dash

I have a 98 Ranger with the check engine light on, 91.000, automatic 3.0 liter, six cylinder.
I went to auto zone to have them check the code, but the clerk could not locate the plugin for the code tester. He checked his manual which told him the plug-in was under the dash, on the passenger side of the steering column. He couldn't locate it and neither can I. Does anyone know where this plug-in is for the OBDII test.
Larry
