The little mexican under the hood of my malibu stoped pedaling

Ok I unfortunately purchased a 99 chevy malibu. I was having a problem with the engine overheating. After going to a mechanic and having them replace practically the entire cooling system, piece by piece, they were able to figure out that it was the intake manifold head gasket something or other. So it cost me a pretty penny, and to spare the embarassment I won't say exactly how much. Now that this was done, the car was driving fine, no problems. Recently the check engine light started periodically coming on, and at take off the vehicle rattles and shakes (drives fine at higher speeds). I also noticed that in park my rpms don't go over 4, they reach the mark and drop back down.

So my questions are:

1.) What could be wrong? I was thinking something with the fuel injection, but am not a mechanic so it doesn't matter what I was thinking.

2.) Could this problem be a result of the mechanic replacing some part perhaps not how he was supposed to (I noticed my stereo now powers my brakes for example) since this only started happening after the "repair" of my cooling system.

3.) Where's waldo?

Intelligent forum readers please help!!!! I will triple whatever you normally get paid for your answers

haha funny triple pay. Anyway, just get the codes from the SES light pulled from autozone or somewhere that does it for free. That should tell you for the most part what the problem is. Good luck. If you have a gauge check the fuel pressure to make sure it's not low - it's a quick easy check that can tell you a lot.

Chevy put that rev limiter in to protect the engine when it is in park or neutral. Once its in dirve it will go past 4,000.

I wonder if you can get yourself some reimbursement from GM for the intake manifold gasket repair. They're a problem across the board for Malibus.
