Hi-Lift jack tie-down

This is a mod I thought I would share with everyone. Mr Mosi recieves credit for using it in this location but I think I have improved upon the design. The PVC joints are 2" diameter and 2 1/2" tall. I used rubber washers under the 1 5/8" steel washers. The eyebolts are 3" on the left and 2' on the right. Instead of wingnuts I used these handles. I purchased all the parts at Lowe's. A jackmate is on the highlift, which can be found at Jackmate.com.

Very cool stuff! Nice, cheap, sturdy.

Unfortunately, quite a few of us (who are running shackles and AAL's) can't use a 48" HL anymore because it is too short to raise the rear tire off the ground, so we need a 60" HL which doesn't fit in the cargo area like the 48" HL does.

I've heard you mention this twice now. Guess I'll have to lose my 48 and get a 60.

Anyone want to buy a 48" Hi-lift?

All you have to do is buy the longer 'main arm' from Hi-Lift ... about $23. Take the other parts off the 48" and you're all set.

I didn't know you could do that! My Hi-Lift is bent (had it mounted to the front bumper and hit a tree).

yet another reason to NOT mount it to the front of the vehicle. I never could understand the logic of that. I'll put my extraction tool as the protection for the front of the truck in case I slam into something.

Not blasting you for your choice, blasting them for their poor accessory design. A friend did the same thing to his HiLift on the front of his Disco II.

Yep, Hi Lift sells mounts for mounting the jack on the front of a Jeep. Mine was only up there for a couple of weeks before I bent the hell out of it. It wasn't a hard hit either.

For those that have safari racks, this works very nicely. I like the locking ability so I don't have to worry about someone grabbing my jack and walking away with it when I'm parked somewhere.

Craig, I am trying to figure out how the unlocked side of the Hi-Lift is held in place? Your rack looks a lot like a Surco rack?

When you buy the lockable mount from hi-lift it comes with a piece for the other end which fits in a hole on the base. It is meant to bolt into the pickup box, but I modified it by welding it to the rack.

And it may look like a Surco, (or any other square tube rack for that matter) but it's a helluva lot stronger. I built it myself. :frog:

Now I read that you can't use the 48" with shackles and AAL's. Can you use the 48" with just AAL's? Keep in mind I have EOE sliderz and I can mount the jack under there.

Yes you can still use your 48" Hi-Lift! What they mean is you won't be able to jack it as high. By raising your truck with add-a-leaves and torsion bar or A-arm lift the jack isn't quite as useful if you use the bumpers or hitch or ARB as a jack point. But by using the sliderz then you won't have a problem. I bought the 60" because I also have a 1972 FJ40 that requires it. Plus if you have to use it as a winch you have two extra feet before you have to reset. However you won't be using that cool hold down bracket!
