Yeah a civic seems like a great idea :P. Good reliability though no power, no style, fwd....etc...etc...etc...i know youre joking, but i havent been here a long while and even for me its getting old...
Forgot the 944 was in my price range now. Hmm...porsche parts are expensive though, but not a bad idea to check it out and maybe test drive one. Most likely going with an 96-98 s14 and getting a jap s13 front clip. Was going to get a s15 for the 6 speed and then I found out it was quirky . Could always go with the RB26 for 6 speeds, but I don't have enough cash for even the clip lol. A few other questions though...If I put on some Eibach sportlines will the ride be stiff, but comfortable. I'm not using it at the track, but I hate a lot of body roll...my gf will still want to be comfortable though. Any other suggestions for mods I should do early on? I plan on getting an LSD (if it doesn't already have one), injen intake, blitz exhaust. Some other stuff later on too. |

The Boxter engine in the Subaru is by far the most throaty engine naturally... I wish I could post a wav file of my Subie for you guys... then a file of the Turbo RX-7 with the spool noise as a backgorund noise behind the usuall brat brat "pissed off weed eater" noise... Makes me creamy just thinking about it... |

Go test drive one, the 944 is considered to be one of the best handling porsches. The N/A Stock 944s do low to mid 14's I think and Ive seen Stock Turbo times of high 13's(Just search around the net) I found a site a whiles back where an '87 944 turbo with just a chip was a bit faster than an '02 M3 with 0-60 and 0-100 times, I don't remember the 1/4 times. I was grinning! I want to get one but I prolly won't for at least a few more years.

Well of the cars you're considering I would take the Supra. If you are worried about reliability then avoid the RX-7 like the plague. They are riddled with problems. Also you are taking a chance buying any used car that has a turbo installed. A lot people don't know how to take care of them.

If you want Turbo and RWD, and reliability, I would say go with a go with a 240sx swapped. Or if your quite tha amatuer mechanic yourself you could try to pick up an NA 300ZX and swap a Turbo engine in(quite a bit tougher than the 240/SR swap. But you figure you could pick up a 3Z NA for 4-5K, about 3K for a VG30DETT/trans/ECU, use the other 3K for brakes/exhaust, intake, chip, ect. A 3Z NA 2+2 into turbo 2+2 would be pretty tight, and cheaper insurance(compared to a real 3Z turbo) if you think you can handle jumping from a 98 150hp Cav to a 300+ RWD 3Z.
Or find a 91+ MR2 Turbo with some miles and get a imported engine, they are like 1500 for a 3SGTE. Or get an NA and do the whole swap for about 3K. If you plan on keeping the car or want some real power out of it, I would find the cheapest car possible and swap a low mile engine or a built engine. Why not do it right from the start? Nissan 240SX/SR20DET Nissan 300ZX NA/VG30DETT Toyota MR2/3SGTE 92+Civic Coupe/H22a Eclipse GSX/Built engine&TRE trans

When i said s13 front clip i meant get one and use just the sr and tranny from it...sorry for the confusion.
Eclipse is a good choice, but 4wd increases the weight a bit more and they are very common. 300zx isnt a bad option either if I want to do the swap right off (I hear the stock us spec engine is riddled with coolant problems among others). MR2 would also be a nice car, but I live in maine so mid engine might be a bit squirrely in the winter. They look nice though and I hear they aren't death traps like the domestic mid-engined Fiero. Civic is definitely not an option though. I can't stand FWD and I can't stand what people do to them. They look alright stock on some years (96 comes to mind) and they are reliable, but that's still not enough to get me to buy a honda. Yeah Supra is still a possibility if I find a nice one. Might even check out about swapping a jspec 5th gen (I think the newest are 5th) into an older 4th gen. Other than the engine and rust issues the older ones are nice too. I didn't know a 944 turbo was that fast. Damn for the money that's one hell of a little sports car out of the box. I knew their handling was great stock, just the power I thought was a bit low since isn't that the reason why Porsche replaced them in their GT class? I don't keep up on racing much... Thanks for all the replies...didn't think I'd get this much input. |
