What car should I buy?

Alright I'm in a bit of a dilemma...Originally I wanted a 1996-1998 240SX SE, but after reading a recent thread about the problems, I'm wondering whether I should rethink this. I know this is the 240sx forum and this should really be placed in a misc folder or off topic folder, BUT I like the 240SX most and still hopefully will want it after I get some replies.

The other cars I'm considering are:
94-95 Toyota Supra (TT and NA)
2nd gen (maybe 86-88...not quite sure what year I want most) Mazda RX-7
86-89 (88-89 preferably) Toyota MR2

Open to suggestions for a good rwd car not listed...mid engine, front engine, rear engine, horizontally opposed...doesnt matter lol...I just want some more ideas or some input as what car is best that I already listed.

Keep in mind my budget isn't amazing. The most I'm willing to spend is around 10k (preferably 5-6k), though if the car is perfect in all the other important areas maybe 15-20...just have to wait longer and save more to get it. Other things I'm interested in: low maintenance, reliability, handling, and power though that can be altered to my liking pretty easily (with mods I only desire about 250-300 hp)

finding a TT supra at that price will be an amazing find. and if you budget isn't huge i would say 240sx (which won't be fast outta the box) or a second gen rx7 turbo 2 (which MAY not end up being the most reliable car in the world, especially after its modified)

You think a 2nd gen couldn't handle only 300hp? Damn, I knew the engines were delicate, but not that delicate. Rotaries are bad on gas when modified too right?? Good spool up I hear. My friend had one until he tried to do what Corupt did kinda. Was going like 45 on a road and decided to test the brakes...slammed them on and hydroplaned with only one side of the car and skided through this ladies lawn. He came to my house right after it happened...the thing caked with mud and it made this rattling sound. Car was cool until he wreaked though.

Yeah TT might be hard to find, but hey I can dream can't I?

my rx-7's turbo spools fast enough to support 0 psi at idle. It sounds beautiful.

$10000!!!

For $10000 you can find almost anything... You talking cash or $10000 financed? Either way go with the 240sx. If you think about it any used car is going to give you problems only thing you can do is hope nothing seriously goes wrong with it.

10k is a mixture of all the money I've got or am getting eventually

$2000 trade-in/selling my car
$2000-$5000 savings
$1500-$2000 financed
---------
$6-10k

Alright I was just making sure the thread that was posted wasn't a major problem. I know about the rust below the spoiler on the s13s and a few other problems, but when I read the list it spooked me. I hope I'm not dissapointed when I get the car...

Still might get an RX-7, but I doubt it. They sound kinda fruity...I guess that can be blamed on the wankel .

hey man , any 1.3 litre that can pump out 4x the power of a cylinder with every rotor spin and can whoop about any stock car's ass is fine by me, and should be fine by anyone that appreciates cars as a whole.

There's a price for all that performance and weight savings though. Personally I'd rather have an R33 GTR than an RX-7 even if it can't beat the skyline in the corners.

I've never seen anyone swap out the GTR's engine for another engine. With the RX-7 I've seen several swaps...one a jspec supra engine I believe and the other was an sr20.

I respect anyone who drives an RX-7, but I can't see driving one myself.

ive seen the supra swap, and thats just cause the guy wants to rip out 800 rwhp of an rx7.

i dunno if i would ever see an sr20 in one though... maybe ur talking about the 20B from the Eunos Roadster 3 rotor wankel?

i wonder how the renesis would be when its t-charged. that outta be sweet

but u are right though, the rotarys are a whiney engine. u know last time i was at a track, it was NO ROTARY enforced, due to its loud noise and cows hearing its high pitched sound and causing a comotion at nearby farms.

haha.. i thot it was funny when i asked the event coordinator why the Magnus/Tran Rx7 with super short exhaust pipe ( right behind front wheel) wasnt racing and he said "too loud, bothers the cows..." and i laughed, and he had serious face on. the look of devast00ts we call it. LOL

thats a bunch of b.s. Races dont allow rotarys because they are too fast for piston engines to keep up.
Ever wonder why they banned the 787B from Le Mans? Because "Mazda and its RCE is the most consistent finisher of this grueling 24 hour race."

hey man if you can find a 94-95 Supra TT for 10k then more power to you. I saw a 94 TT go for 25k at an auction and it wouldnt even start. And auctions are supposed to be cheap. I think NA supras are around 15-20k, not sure though. RX-7s are fast, very light, and I hear they handle very well. atleast the newer ones (3rd gen?). They are kinda hard to find though, unless you get an old one.

i know, the 787b rocks..
love the pain color too

but the guy was dead serious. i even asked my friend who was supposed to race the rx7 (he has a 10 second porsche) and he said its cause it was too loud 2 weeks before that event. he actually wanted the rx7 to be there because he wanted to wh00p his ass.

i thot it was B.S. too, because then they were running chevy's with 502's and ford 427's and crap... but they seemed like they werent joking to me.

i dunno...

the lowest ive seen an NA supra go for is 13,000 and the turbos go from 15,000 to 385,000 i wish i could have one... sigh

anyhoo theres the subaru Imprezza RS 2.5 the old model pretty fast and the 2.0 turbo engine is hella cheap like 1-2000

there was a shop here in austin Protech Preformace (they admit to stealing parts) that was trying to convice my friend to run 87octane in his RX-7... A holes... anyway the only thing i really like about the wankle is its compact size other than that go piston.
