neon lights to buy or not to buy

I am just starting to custom my car, and wanted to get the neon underbody lights. I have some concerns about how easy they might be to break, the best kind of lights and who might install them. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

First off, welcome to AF.com

Word is Street Glow brand is the best to get. Keep in mind underbody neons in California (I assume you live in CA having posted this in here0 are illegal to have operating on public roads. I know a guy who got a $1200, yes $1200 ticket for having undercar neons while driving in Beverly Hills. As for installing, I'd think most car stereo places like Al & Ed's would be able to install them for you. Anywho good luck with them.

That's on interior lights. But for exterior, you can't see ANY of the light if it's not to DOT CVC standards, blah blah blah...

one in a million shot you're coming from the Los Angeles/Pasadena area, VIP Centers sells and installs them. Its not like there's one shop statewide that sells/installs them, so you need to be specific on where you're coming from. I'd be careful when getting them though. I was setting off fireworks on the 4th and some guy drove by with blue lights underneath and parked it across the street. He got so much attention from the kids and women thinking it was UFO-like. I thought it looked good cause of the color, but i'd still be careful getting them myself. They might draw the wrong attention, and if you get glass tubes, the potential of them breaking is high. Especially if your car is lowered. Warranty won't cover it all the time. Welcome to AF.

$1200?!!!

Yeah, BHPD is a fucking joke! The judge saw the ticket when the guy went to fight it, and threw it out and made him only pay $10 because he thought the ticket itself and it's price were rediculous.

Nah, only when HIN San Mateo is in town. haha, j/k Nate

I personally wouldn't get them, wast of money because of the risk of them breaking, and the risk of a ticket. Just my $0.02 though for whatever it's worth.

What are you goals for the car? If you're going to build a full blown show car, I would get them, but I'd get them last as kind of like an icing on the cake...I mean obviously they're going to draw attention, but I'd only want that attention if my car was really fixed up.

But it's your car, and if you like them, and you think it's safe getting them, then go for it. I mean I've asked a ton of questions for peoples' opinions, but what it all comes down to is that it's your car and your money...
