Windows keep fogging up on my 2002 caravan

Here is a common example of what happens. We will pull the unfogged window van out of the garage, drive around for about 10 minutes or so it seems to vary and then it will decide that it is just going to start fogging up. Usually the two front side windows fog up first then the back side and back windows. I've tried blasting heat, turning the A/C on the defrost on (hot or cold, make no difference) rain-x antifog wipes, When it starts fogging up there's NO smell at all associated with it and i run it on FRESH AIR mode, not set in the recirculating air mode . The only thing that seems to start helping is if we open the windows, which is a pain since it is cold outside.

Re: Windows keep fogging up on my 2002 caravan

I would check for wet carpets, possibly one of the sliding door seals is leaking allowing water to get into the carpet which in turn freezes and when thawing it causes fogging. I know if I use the recirculation on my van, my windows fog up within minutes since my carpets are always wet from melting snow. Also, if there is any moisture and the van goes from a warm to cold zone, this will trigger fogging. If there is no antifreeze smell at all, this is the only logical explanation.

When you switch from recirc to external air and back do you feel/hear air source shifting?

Of course, this could be the OTHER logical solution, lol.

Last car I had this complaint on was stuck in recirc mode---as stated- check for proper recirc door operation.

is your garage heated? Does this happen when the van is parked outside?

This is a narrative from a service bulletin concerning a different problem but it has a good explanation on the system and also has the procedure you can do to test/calibrate your HVAC system. http://www.2carpros.com/questions/do...van-blend-door

If your test fails after repeated attempts meaning lights are flashing after completion post back here and I'll dig up the meaning.

Since the fresh air enters through the cowl, you could try putting a piece of paper over the cowl to check for suction with fan on high while switching mode from fresh to recirc. Or find where the recirc duct is inside the cabin and try it there.

Do you have climate control? with a digital temp setting? If so you can check for codes-- and see if you have a recirc door failure code-- it may have a broken recirc door hinge-- dodge and jeeps are known for that..

Yea my van has 3 zone climate control but no digital temp setting. Is there any other way to check for codes?

Re: Windows keep fogging up on my 2002 caravan

Is your air-conditioning fully charged and functioning properly? When you set your climate control to defrost with heat on the a/c compressor should turn on. A properly functioning A/C system dramatically helps reduce moisture/humidity in the passenger compartment.

The air-conditioning is fully charged and works great it . When i turn the defrost with heat on i can hear the a/c compressor cycling on and off.

Re: Windows keep fogging up on my 2002 caravan

Then it is time to pull the glove box out and have a look.....at the recirc door - see if you can see it through the recirc opening in behind the glove box..
