2002 Caravan chime

We just brought home our 2002 caravan sport last night. When I got to the store I noticed that when I opened my door to get out, it started chiming like I left the key in or the lights on. Neither was the factor. I tried to figure it out when I returned home with no answer to the problem. This morning my battery was dead. To our luck, we received no user manual. I can not seem to find an answer. My husband put the jumper cables in the back of the van and suggested that where ever I park today, I should back in. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

u just bought the vehicle from a dealer?

take it back to them & let them diagnose it; something in the electrical curcuit is forcing that chime to go on... too many factors to go wrong in this instance

Re: 2002 Caravan chime

Ditto. In many states you have a number of days to take a car back and get your money back no questions asked. Check your states laws or look at the contract you signed.

Open the fuse box next to the battery and pull the IOD/Memory fuse for 2-3 minutes. This will reset the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM controls most of the electronics in the van including the chimes. Could be as easy a fix as that but, not likely.

Good chance your dead battery is being caused by what is called a "parasitic draw" meaning something is drawing current when it shouldn't. This can be a costly and time consuming problem to fix. Erratic interior lights/power windows/door locks can be clues to the source. If you wind up keeping this van come on back.

Re: 2002 Caravan chime

I took out the iod fuse, the chime stopped. I waited as you suggested then replaced it. The chiming started again. I took it back out. With out it i have no radio and I can not lock or unlock the van with my remote. What do you suggest?

Thank you.

Re: 2002 Caravan chime

possible you have a open circuit in your driver door lock actuator, when you turn your vehicle off and open the door the radio should also turn off. Does the radio stay on with your key removed and door open,??

Re: 2002 Caravan chime

OK so we figured it out. Evidently the key comes out in the ACC mode. That was the only problem. So it looks like we will just have to get the ignition switch replaced. Not as bad as we thought. Thanks to everyone for offering help. We appreciate it.

Yup, sometimes it's the simplest things. Happy to hear the gremlins decided to pass you by.
