Upgrading rims and dropping, need help!!

What´s up everybody? Well I need some help because I´m going to get my car dropped soon, but I want to make sure I do it right. I´m currently riding with 16" TSW rims, and with 205/45 falken tires. I recently moved to an area that has roads that are mad bumpy, and rough. Don´t know if I should upgrade my rims to 18" with 205/50 or go with 17´s with 205/55´s or what combination to use for my tires to still be profile, look hot while dropped, not slammed, just a little drop and for my car to be able to sustain the rough roads without any damage to the suspension, tires or car itself.

Another thing, what combination do you guys suggest for suspension for rough roads as well as shocks and struts, I´m going to go with either falken tires or pirelli, as well as tenzo R Mean 6, RS-5´s or OZ F1´s, still debating, appreciate the help, thanx, pe@ce out :alien:

These wheel tire combo's are way to big for your car. For 17's use 205/40/17 this is already bigger over all than your current set up or the stock set up. For 18's I'm not 100% sure but I think you use 215/35/18, also much bigger than current set up or stock. If you're worried about bumpy roads your going in the wrong direction, this is just going to make things worse. Either keep you current set up or drop down to 205/50/15 if you want to help smoth out some of the bumps. Also be careful with those TSW's, I had a set of 16" TSW Evo's I bought about six years ago and they bent very easily. I hope they've made there wheels stronger in the last six years but just to be safe don't hit any pot holes hard.

right now, I have 215/35/18, and that is not the size you want if your wanting some sort of buffer zone for your wheels. These are aboput the lowest profile tire you can get for an 18" wheel. the size you would most likely desire for an 18 would be a 225/35 or 225/40, although i use to have 225/40's on my car when i first got the wheels but they had to much meat for my little car to handle and I rubbed off more tire than i could possibly wear down with camber. the only bad thing is, 225/35 is considered an odd size (though I don't know why since its a widely bought tires size) so it will cost more, thus the reason why i went with the 215's. If you go to whalentire.com, that site has specs for the tire your looking for, and they have the specs for the correct tire size to match the wheel size you choose for your car. not to mention they have cheap stuff and we buy from them all the time with no problems.

I won't recommend 18s ever for a Civic, and that is not knocking anyone who has them either.

If you have anything that resembles pot holes and shitty roads everywhere a profile lower than 45 will be very rough.

Its going to cost you to do it right.
You want an extreme drop you will need race springs, and sport shocks which means automatically you are going to have a rough ride.

You can custome order CG sleeves with specific spring rates, which is your best option, that way you will have a softer ride, you won't need a Koni yellow shock (unless you are lower than 2.5") and it will be cheaper.

My choice for springs would be either
Neuspeed Sport Springs/H&R sport/CG custom ordered at 150/200

For Shocks
KYB AGX or Koni Yellow (you want slammed sleeves you are stuck with the yellows)

Camber kit

with those huge ass rims and wide tires and drop you are stuck with skunk2 in the front, ingalls in the rear.

Appreciate the help Dezoris, I knew you wouldn´t let me down. When it comes to suspension, you´re da master man. After what you´ve said and what i´ve seen in some shops around here I´ve decided to go with 17´s, not sure which combination of tires yet though and I would appreciate you helping me with that.

About the suspension, well I don´t think I´m gonna have much of a problem with that since I´m not trying to slam my car, just like an inch, inch and a half. With all these pot holes around here and bumps and everything, I don´t want to scratch my exhaust or my front kit for that matter. I´m just going to wait until I move back to Orlando to maybe drop it another inch or inch and a half. Appreciate the help Dezoris, and would you suggest 50´s for the tires? I´m currently with 205/40´s in the front and 205/45 in the back. In the front is where I´m having some problems whenever I get a bump or a pot hole. The back isn´t that bad but I think that 50´s will do the trick. Once again, appreciate the help. Pe@ce out. :alien:

First off there is absolutely no reason to have different size tires between front and rear. As far as tire sizes 205/40's will be the best fit, but on a 17 inch rim no matter what tire size you go with you are going to be way bigger than stock. This is going to screw up your gearing and make your car slower. Your car comes stock with 185/60/14, heres how the over all diameter of the stock wheel and tire package compares to the sizes your asking about.
185/60/14 - 22.74 inches
205/40/17 - 23.45 inches, almost 3/4 of an inch bigger than stock
205/45/17 - 24.26 inches, 1 and 1/2 inches bigger than stock
205/50/17 - 25.07 inches, 2 and 1/3 inches bigger than stock
Not only do these screw up your gearing, the 45's and 50's severly, but with the last two listed if your thinking about lowering your car rubbing might start being a consern. So basically if you want to ride better over bumps and pot holes stick with 16's and go with 205/45/16, this is only 1/2 inch bigger than stock which isn't too bad. If you want 17's go with 205/40/17 and live with the harsh ride.

Everyone thinks that however bigger the rim/tire combo is than stock, that's how much longer their dick is. I saw a 95 civic sedan with a 6th gen front and Beemer 3 series taillights, and it was rolling on fucking 19s. Crazy shit.

I am thinking about a set of rota slip 16s. Would 205/40s be better than 205/45s? Or is the trade off of 1/2 inch over stock over ride quality worth it?

I live in the Northeast and 205/40/17's aren't that bad for these roads. Just watch where you drive.

i live in an area where potholes are on every turn......now since i just bought about 7k worth of shit for my accord (including 18 inch racing harts and 215/35/18's) i decided it was time to go out and buy another car to beat around town in all the time... cause potholes are too ridiculous....now that youve heard my story..... understand..that looks may be great.....in areas that a car can handle it...but in areas like mine...youll end up with more than one vehicle to drive if you get too extreme with modding the other.
