Pondering Vortec Upgrade On My '94, NEED HELP

Hi, I know that this topic has come up before but I couldn't answers to all of my questions.

So, I'm thinking of upgrading my 1994 chevy 350 with some 5.7L vortec heads off of a newer truck (perhaps a 1998 truck). I know that I need to get a new intake to adapt to my TBI. But I'm not sure if I will need to replace the computer? I'm also wondering if my aftermarket headers will fit on the 5.7L vortec heads? Is there anything else that will need to be changed? Have people been doing this successfully? How much HP and torque gains should I expect? Thanks

Does anybody have any info for me. I greatly appreciate it. I have to take my intake manifold off soon to reseal it, so I figured I might as go all out while it is apart.

Re: Pondering Vortec Upgrade On My '94, NEED HELP

prankstar,
Places like Scoggin Dickey (www.sdpc2000.com) and Pace Performance (www.paceperformance.com) sell complete kits to add Vortec heads to your truck. They each claim 30 HP gain.

You need a new exhaust manifold on the drivers side for EGR to function properly. Kits from Scoggin Dickey can be ordered with or without the manifolds (it comes with both side). The kit from Pace comes with the Driver's side exhaust only.

You will need to get the correct EGR valve but otherwise, the kits are pretty complete (except for programming).

I have read that to really take advantage of the new heads, you should really get some programming done (replace the PROM). Places like TurboCity (www.turbocity.com) or TBI Chips (www.tbichips.com) offer chips for the Vortec heads along with better TBI units.
