Bent my rim and i need help.

Sorry guys about that other thread i was trying ediet that one and somebody already closed the thread. I am going to do it again.

I hit the curb and bend my front rim and i called the dealership and told me that it would cost me 800 bucks for one rim and there is no way i am going to pay that much money for one rim so if anybody has a 18" rim please tell me. If i cant find any older rims then i am just going to buy some after market 18" rims and the reason that i am going to get 18" is because i just bought my tires and that cost me 1400 bucks and i dont want to go any bigger or smaller so i dont have to guy buy new tires again. I was gonig to see if you guys can tell me any good places that i can get some nice rims for a good price for vr-4s.

Thank You

and again sorry about the other thread Igovert500.

Wow, wow, settle down there speedy. how bad did you bend the rim? did you flatten the tire? cause if its bent really bad then the rim is the last thing you should worry about. you might have bent the anti-roll bar and some other suspension stuff in there. also you might have thrown off your alignment (which will eat away at those brand new 1400 tires of yours and youll be looking at another set of 1400 dollar tires before the year is over) how hard did you hit the curb man?
I bent three of my rims this past couple of months and my cars shaking cause they were not round anyore, more like ovals. anyway the cost of repairing your rims is much cheaper then buying new ones. I was looking at paying 1200 in wheels alone. I spend 450 fixing three bent rims and they are like new......hell better then new cause now they are powder coated. anyway go online to att.com and type "Wheel Repair" in the business search section. there are lots of wheel shops around evey town that speciallize in reshaping, repairing, and repressing busted up rims. on avarge a wheel repair will run 120 to 200 per wheel....preaty good deal compared to buying 4 new ones.....and you get to keep your tires.
BOOYAAH.

Re: Bent my rim and i need help.

no problem about the other thread, I didn't know you had intentions of editing it, so I was a bit confused.

As far as these rims, I looked at your other thread, and they just look road-rashed, like you clipped a curb...not like you nailed it, they might not be bent...either way, I gaurentee they aren't as bad as hopping a curb at 70 in reverse...all for a damned cat.

Edit: Linebackr is right...you should definantly have everything checked out by someone who knows suspension. I guess I was just trying to say, that you MIGHT be lucky and come out cleaner than you think...

I'm with Musashi. From unfortunate and very recent experience i know what just a little 'curb rash' can turn into. i nailed a curb, and i saw my rim had a little curb rash on it, just scraped, no big deal....wrong...very BIG DEAL! turns out i had knocked my rear wheel out of alignment. upon further inspection, it was misaligned BECAUSE my rear suspension control arms were bent AS WELL AS my rear suspension crossmember. I posted a few pics about this in a thread a month ago. i can bring those pics back if you'd like.

All i'm saying is that depending upon how fast you were going and whether or not you just scraped the curb or hit it at decent angle, you could have suspension damage. And since your's is a VR4, your half-shaft(s) could be bent. So as Musashi said, a bent rim is the least of your worries now.

I'm not saying this to scare you, but just to be realistic. i thought i had gotten away clean with minor scratches...when in fact i basically replaced my entire rear suspension (luckily i'm just a base, so i had no rear drivetrain to mess with). I got a great deal on parts from a salvage yard, but it was a lot of work, money, and toil i would have rather avoided.

So you might want to get your car checked out at an alignment shop (or the stealership if you really wanna) just to make sure there's not any other subtle but critical damage.

here's a little eye-candy for ya:

on top is the new (used) control arm. below that is my bent control arm

on top is the new (used) rear suspension crossmember. on bottom is the compressed crossmember. circled in red you can see where the metal compressed inwards from the force of the curb hitting the wheel.

here are some other views to give you some idea of what you're dealing with and what fun might be awaiting you if you so choose to fix it yourself. (Please note, level of fun <cough> complexity <cough> will definitely increase with the VR4 rear drivetrain: pics not included).

close-up shot of the right rear wheel hub. check out the bends on those busted control arms! booyah!

here's a shot of the underneath from the back. yup, you'll have to remove the rear exhaust to get to it!

and finally a shot from the side. this could be mistaken for a chop shop to the uninformed person!

I saw the pics, yeah dude, you can fix them. the only thing is I tried looking for a wheel repair shop in your area gathered from the info on your sig. I cant find any. its cool though my cities is not listed either. go to a rim shop or a tire shop and ask them where the nearest wheel repair shop is. those types of business work intertuined all the time so they can point you in the right dirrection. also to know if it is bent for sure find a little corner store used tire shop, usually those small mom and pop stores will charge you like 5 to 7 bucks to balance a wheel. have them balance the one you hit. the balancing machine will tell you if its bent for sure. I'll keep doing more research, maybe there is a turbax in your area, thats the shop I go to, they have tons of locations but I gotta see if they got one in Norman.

Re: Bent my rim and i need help.

i bent my rim once when i had a flat... i was passing and i hit a giant rock in the road... the rim was bent off about a inch from place, if you have the same rims i do then they are pretty flexible... i took a rubber mallet and had my way with it... it hammered it back in place and it held air and doesnt leak... i even put it through test by like powerslideing to see if it with held and it did... but my bend wasnt so bad... i dont know the damage of yours but you could always try that...
i myself bought enkies for my car... and i have the stock 17" rims for a 92... but im not sure if i want to get rid of them... you can always check ebay.

Re: Bent my rim and i need help.

I can kinda see the bend in the lip, but its right above a spoke so its probably just a matter of wacking it straight. I had a few little bends in the lip on my wheels but it seemed fine except for a tire was flat every morning lol.
